VHS to 9300 ?'s

Thread Starter
One of the reasons I ordered the 9300 was to start putting some of our families older VHS taps on to DVD for storage. With all the stuff I have done with computers and stuff, I have never touched video editing.

What is the best way to do this with the 9300?
What capture device do you have experience with being the best / easiest?
Will the capture device connect through the S-video on the 9300 or the firewire / USB ports? Do you have a choice.
I will be playing tapes from a VCR with S-video and trying to go to the 9300.

Thanks,

smack

get a USB 2.0 tv tuner from Hauppage or ATI or some other company. You have to watch out for latency though. If there is a big gap in the audio and video you can always use Virtual Dub (freeeeeebieee!!) to snug it up.

Use your digital camcorder to digitize the vhs tapes (connect your vhs recorder to your camcorder via rca imputs); With your tapes in dv, minidv or micro dv format transfer it to your laptop via firewire and edit with pinnacle studio, adobe premiere, sony las vegas, etc.....

Sorry for my english.

Also, some DV cameras have a pass-through function so you can just plug your vcr into the camera input then hook the firewire into your notebook and capture directly to hard drive (skipping the DV tape step).

If you're just archiving to DVD, you might also look into a set-top DVD recorder. It's a lot more straightforward than getting video capture to work smoothly.

DV cam route is the best nearly fool-proof.

We use something nearly identical at school. Very easy once you refine your settings.
