installed promise drivers,winxp still no go

My 9869 started acting up (blue screens of death, once it just beeped a continous tone at me and froze etc) so tried to reinstall xp, i put the xp sata promise drivers on a floppy (not raid) and select them with f6 during the install, but after the format etc when it tries to start it gives me a black screen with white letters telling me a required storage device controller isnt installed, i;ve tried reformatting multiple times installing those drivers every time with no luck, any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you buy the USB2 Floppy Drive from the laptop maker.

check your bios F2 to be set to hyperthreading and SATA

Does it have to be a USB 2 floppy drive?

No, as long as it works. I don't recall if the ones people said did work were USB 1.1 or USB 2. But I would buy one someone has already said it works. I don't have a list of working ones but remember most Sony USB floppy drives did not work.
