How bout that folks? I've NEVER even used WIN XP before.

Thats one i've not heard before...some of them IBM's are nice...most of them are as described above...overpriced and underequipped...maybe a little Viagra??...??

I went from a Apple Macintosh PowerPC with 100Mhz CPU and 8MB Ram to this Sager 5660 with 2.8Ghz and 1GB Ram...

I have used other pc's but all under the sub 1.0 Ghz category...

The 5660 kicks some bhut!!

This is why I am waiting till both the 8890 and 5680 are shipping before I order - I may get mine after everyone else - but I can be pretty sure that if they say 2 weeks - it will be 2 weeks . That and the fact I wanted to read some reviews.

Speaking for myself, although I am anxious to get my laptop as soon as possible, I would not want Sager to rush the shipment, skip on the testing and send me a possibly defective machine.

I'd rather wait another couple of days than have a box with a component that is flaky because someone was in a hurry when they plugged it all together.

So, for now I am content to wait, and if they start to ship next week, that is OK.

If the delays go on for weeks, then I would be looking to cancel my order, but for now, I can hang on a few days.

I've been managing...

My roommate's been letting me use his computer when he's not there. Only like 2-3 hours a day, but it accomplishes my bare necessities (12 email accounts, all important, these forums, and the weather, with some homework). Otherwise I take the 300 yard walk to the nearest computer lab, or an additional 100 yard to the school's UNIX lab. Work on my UO shard is slow without me, but they'll just have to suffer.

I started training today. I carried around one of my friends' laptops and ps and cds and extra drives that weighed about 13 lbs more than usual. Who knows? by the time this laptop actually gets to me, I'll be fit.

No shipping today for the 5680 POOP If Adam posts the 5680 is shipping in the news forum, does that mean its shipping from Clevo to Sager or just from Sager...hmmm he'll most likely say...I still think Its gonna be awhile.....OH WELL

Dude...

Weeks are gonna turn into months and then the m11pro will come out and we'll all of bought outdated computers! Expected release....sometime this month? Can't we just call Clevo somehow? Somthings not right, but i'll take all this back IF THEY SHIP THIS WEEK...

I think you have to get this in perspective.

Let's say the delay is caused by waiting for the wide-angle screens. Would you rather wait an extra two weeks for a better screen, or would you rather have the laptop now with an inferior screen? Right now, it might seem a tough decision, but in a few months it will be a no brainer.

Three years ago, I bought a new Dell and it came with some crap ATI 8MB mobility chip. A month later, I could have got the same system with a 16MB mobility 128, which is a lot, lot better. I didn't know there would be a new card at the time, but now, I wish that I found some reason to put off the purchase for a month and got the better card. CS at 640x480 and 18fps is a hard game.

Our 5680's are like Doom3: They're done when they're done.

I'm quite sure that they aren't doing any sort of intentional delays. The only thing that any of us could be a smidge upset about is that the earlier estimated shipping dates had to slip to later dates for various reasons.

What we have to realize is that they didn't promise them to be available to us. They were providing us with their best guess as a courtesy so that we'd at least know what to expect.

As for me: YES - I want that sucker YESTERDAY. But whether I want it badly or just want it casually doesn't matter as far as how fast it'll ship. And expressing any negative feelings about it to anyone else here on this forum would just be... not nice.

I just want to encourage everyone to not get too grumbly. It won't get your 5680 to you any faster. But it does make the forum a little less pleasant. So, get eager, but try to keep it positive.

5680 on Ebay

I had emailed the person selling the 5680 on ebay, and i was told by them, the one they are auctioning will ship from Sager the end of next week ....

Of course nobody knows for sure, but just relaying what I have been hearing ..

I'm just wondering if they've received them from Clevo yet. I'm imagining they'll have to do a few extra tests to ensure the dual-channel DDR memory is paired well to avoid some of the problems people have seen in the 8890's. And they might have to source some more RAM, if the pairing tests don't go well.

Which would suck mightily. But then, I'd rather not have RAM problems when I finally get mine.
