Grand Prix 4 problems

Last year when i first got my A-51m, I was able to play fine. The occasional game would shut down, but only rarely and not often enough to bother me. Now, roughly a year later, I gave the game a shot again and cannot get the game to play. the Game itself will run fine, settings can be modified, etc. for any length of time, so its not a heat issue but when I go to a race or anytime i actually might "play" the game freezes and restarts the computer. I cant think of anything that has changed since I last played...of course alot has in a year, but nothing serious. I dont have SP2 and obviously did not then when the game worked. I just now tried updating the ATI drivers from 7.99 to 8.05 with no success and the same result. Ive tried turning jsut about everything possible off when I play and again no luck, and thats wiht only 13 processes running!! I have a Gig of ram so that is not the problem. I clocked power strip down too and again wasnt a help. Any suggestions?? Thanks for the help.

I also forgot to mention that other games seem to work fine, like Grand Prix Legends...
