Has anybody heard anything on the new 17" laptop by HP?

What are your thoughts on HP laptops compared to others?

Thanks in advance!!!!

My boss has an HP laptop, it really blows, LCD is very hard to read and Ive "heard" that their build quality is quite low. But of course Ive never really sat down and played with one seriously so I too am interested in someone who has maybe owned one?

HP ZD70001 Now Available!

LOVE the screen size and the fact that you can get the 128MB version of the 5600 card. BUT . . . what is the deal with the hard drive speed? NOT 7200? Oh come on. Only thing really making me wait. Price is pretty good even with 3.2 HT and 1 GB Ram. Let me know what you guys think.

I am on my team-mates HP pavillion ZE4145.

It is fast, has nice controls, a nice 1024x768 screen.

we play WIII on it and it will plays better than the UXGA inpirion we have. It was the nicest computer i had used until one guy got an alienware(5670), and another a Shuttle.

OH, and build quality? this computer is a rock, we also have here

inspiron - broken dvd
Vaio - broken LCD
older dell - broken backlight
Transport - flaky drive

Keep in mind that it has had the crap beaten out of it, for *ugh* seven months of iraqi desert. it has been through a sandstorm uncovered, and underwent a five day drive across the desert(no roads all rocks.

asian out.

Terrestrial,

I too have been anxiously awaiting this machine and was also scratching my head as to why HP would not offer a 7,200 RPM hard drive on this bad boy. I called to verify the FSB speed and it is 533 Mhz on all of them except if you opt for the 3.2 processor then it is 800 FSB (this according to the person I was speaking to with HP). The 128 MB graphics card is a big plus and if they just would offer the 7,200 RPM hard drive it would be an easy decision to make.

...merged...

I merged these two as I thought they might relate...

My Guess is that 7200 is around the corner

but by the time HP catches up, there will be other notebooks far more interesting. Odd.

Funny though, because I find there is always one nice flaw with these lappies. AW, for example, uses 2700 RAM, not 3200, etc. But the HP flaw is PRET-TY glaring.
I started a thread on this lappy awhile ago when there was hardly any info on it.

Ive already emailed HP sales team on the 4200rpm hard drive issue. They responded by giving me a link to corporate suggestions email address.

I emailed that address suggesting they offer a 7200rpm hard drive. I told them it would clench the sale for me and others I know on sagerforums.com.

I await their response.

Sorry for double posting, couldnt edit my last message.

Hey Med64, can you get a second confirmation on that 800mhz fsb with the 3.2ghz chip???

Thats the other 'huge deal' for me and others.

TheGuyverKiller,

Go to HP's website and go to the page where you can customize the zd7000. Under "Processor" highlight the Pentium 3.2 radio button and click on "more info" then scroll to bottom of information box. This is where it says the FSB is 800 Mhz.

I provided a link to the page but it wasn't working properly. I must have done something wrong.

Hope this helps!!!

What is your opion of the wxga+(1440x900) ?

If someone like me would not buy a normal xga let-alone an sxga, would this be a big mistake? I really wanted a uxga.

What is the difference visually between the following?
wxga, wxga+, wsxga, etc. ?

I want this HP, but am hungup on the screen resolution.
give me your thoughts. Is it better to wait for the Sager 4680 or something to come in the coming months?

thanx

You know

You know kim, i currently have a uxga lcd for my sager 5660, and its the best thing. the only thing that can top it would no doubt be a wuxga (drools). And from what im hearing and researching, the sager 4xxx series is pretty sweet. Somebody did a review on it, and its one of the voodoo pcs top of the line laptop machines (one of the 4xxx series, not sure whcih one). So, at first, i didnt give em a second thought (im a high powered 5xxx user), but theeen i stared to read the reviews on the 4xxxs and all i have to say is wow, that thing is really no joke.
Kim,

Currently there are no WUXGA screens available. The Sager 4760 has a WSXGA screen. This is the case with all 17" notebooks so far. Its resolution goes up to 1440x900.

If you plan on waiting for a higher res solution you might be chillin for awhile. The next generation of 17"ers is the Eurocom D470, and that is still pre-advertised with a WSXGA screen.

I think you'll find that 1440x900 is fine for your needs. At this point I dont think laptops can handle 1600x1200 very well. Usually its better to just go 1280x1024 for games (higher fps).

If I were you, I'd be more worried about the ****ty hard drive their offering.

Nice machine - not a bad price tag - however the slow HD and the crap video card (for those who dont know what I am talking about check out the gaming section on the reviews of the Nvidia cards).
I know, the Nvidia cards blow as far as HL2 goes. *sigh
Another thing to bitch at HP about.
