Looking for 2nd hdd adapter...
I am also looking for a second hdd adapter for my laptop. The question is: how do you go from the IDE interface of 2.5" laptop hard drive to the 50 pin JAE socket on the laptop motherboard where optical drives fit in?
I was trying to make one myself but I need a microelectronic soldering pencil and it's too expensive for me to buy.
Here is what I did:
Basically I got an old laptop cdrom, took out the pieces and left only the microelectronic board that has the JAE 50 connector that will fit in the laptop motherboard. I got a 44 pin ribbon from
here and the female
44 pin socket. The idea was to connect one end of the ribbon to the 2.5" hdd and the other to the circuitry on the microelectronic board using the pinouts from
here and
here
But in trying to solder the ribbon to the JAE50 socket in the old cdrom I messed up the contacts and destroyed the socket.
