I have a lot of the second hard drive boxes for IBM ThinkPad R50, R50p ;ThinkPad R51 ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p ,T42，T43,ThinkPad X4 UltraBase Dock etc if it has Ultrabay Slim

I'll supply it for long and i also have the thing like page17

I am a notebook DIYer form china.

I bought the ones Patrick Vo was selling, price + ship was a bit high, but it works. It's just a compression fit, but I don't think it's going anywhere. Now have two 60G 7200RPM drives

Looking for 2nd hdd adapter...

I am also looking for a second hdd adapter for my laptop. The question is: how do you go from the IDE interface of 2.5" laptop hard drive to the 50 pin JAE socket on the laptop motherboard where optical drives fit in?

I was trying to make one myself but I need a microelectronic soldering pencil and it's too expensive for me to buy.

Here is what I did:

Basically I got an old laptop cdrom, took out the pieces and left only the microelectronic board that has the JAE 50 connector that will fit in the laptop motherboard. I got a 44 pin ribbon from here and the female 44 pin socket. The idea was to connect one end of the ribbon to the 2.5" hdd and the other to the circuitry on the microelectronic board using the pinouts from here and here

But in trying to solder the ribbon to the JAE50 socket in the old cdrom I messed up the contacts and destroyed the socket.

I have just ordered another 2 second hard drive adapters

this is 8 months after my first purchase. I should have ordered more to start with, as I use mine every day and would be "hooped" if it ever broke

I recommend anyone who wants one to jump on qi.xu's offer as its rare to find such a nice guy doing good for people like this, and to my knowledge there is no other product which works in the dell laptops

If you dont have a second drive you dont know what your missing. I dual boot OSX from the second internal drive, and also have a partition which I use to take acronis true image backups of the main internal drive. Quick and easy data backup. I have another partition just for storing stuff to keep the main drive free (movies etc) (2x80gb drives)

If you want to hot swap it, you jjust go to device manager and toggle off the second IDE controller, swap it out with DVDRW and toggle it back on. Works great.

I can personally vouch for qi.xu as can many others here.
The delivery is quick and (was 5 days from china last time) and the price is very cheap.

If you dont you'll regret it!

time here is now 1:40 pm in US (daytime) and I am going to bed also. I work nights so I sleep during the day. We are on the same schedule and we are halfway around the world from each other.
