@Maklar: Those are pretty spiffy numbers on Doom3, considering my XPS1 9800MR gets ~36FPS on that benchmark @1024x768...what in the world is a 'Quadro FX1400'? Haven't even heard of it as an option in laptops...

The Quadro FX1400 is a workstation video card aimed towards the business community, also a derivative of the Go 6800.

Yeah, it should be comparable to a 6800 Go, probably a little(~5fps) slower.

I will be pullin this thing apart tomorrow and I will let you know what I find regarding the video memory.

Is there anything else anyone wants while I have the system taken apart? Let me know now.

If you could find the PLL manufacturer and number it would be a big help to people who want to OC the CPU.

Ok, I reinstalled the Dell drivers and did a benchmark.

3D Mark 03: 7974
3D Mark 05: 3154

I second this.

yellowlt4, can you tell me what brand the DVD burner is? And also can you if the connectors on the drive are the same as the ones in this picture or simply will the drive in the picture fit in the i9300:
http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....152-028-02.jpg

THe reason why I asked even though mine is coming with a DVD burner is because I am planning to update the firmware of my drive to one that has the rip-speed protection removed, so if I ever screw up the drive, I will always know I can get another for a reasonable amount and not 300 to 400 bux from Dell. Thanks!

Shinji, where in SG do you live? I spent a few months there during summer, while my parents lived there. It was a pretty cool city. Expensive computer parts and beer though!

Cool! Pictures would be nice. And take a look at the XPS2 service manual to see if there's any way to tell if the two mobos are the same or different. For example, does the 9300 mobo have a connector for the XPS2 LEDs?

I lived at Bedok... haa haa the beer here are awefully expensive...

Cool....isn't Bedok right by Changi Airport or close to it? Even though the beer is expensive, Tiger beer certainly tastes better than Miller or Budweiser! Plus, there's alot of eye candy in Clark Quay and Bo Quay.

Alright, so here is the list of things to check for:

1. Memory speed and part numbers for the video memory
2. PLL model name/number for the CPU
3. DVD Drive information, look to see if it is compatible with the one on Newegg.
4. Pictures to try and determine the board differences between the 9300 and XPS2 (I hope I can do this)

To answer Luology's questions:

1. Sound, its great the best I have heard from a laptop.
2. Wireless, the 1450 card is awesome, the antennas are routed to the top of the LCD that gives it great reception, again much better than my M60 and on par with the 9200.
3. It comes with the typical Dell software load, I plan to reinstall clean.

damn i got the new intel card , hopefully is as good as the 1450.... if anything can i get them to change my card if am not satisfied with the one i ordered???

Oh, a couple more:

- determine LCD manufacturer. You might be able to do this with software:
http://john.fremlin.de/programs/linux/read-edid/

- determine keyboard maker (probably made in china or thailand. Dell shipped two different keyboards for the 9200, and I like the Thai keyboard better.)

If you haggle with Dell CS reps for a while and don't mind wasting alot of time on the phone, anything is possible with Dell. I managed to get Dell to send me a DVD durner for free when I ordered my Inspiron 8500 because 2 weeks after I got it, the Inspiron 8600 came out and there was the option of a DVD burner upgrade that was non-existant with te 8500. I called then up saying that I wanted to return my computer so that I can get the 8600 with a DVD burner. So CS rep asked me if I would keep the 8500 if I got the same 4X burner for free, since it would work in the 8500, and I said ok because that was all I really wanted. They 2nd dayed the drive to be and I have been happy with it until the I9300 came out!
