Cracked lid - Page 4

That would be nice, but I doubt it.... I have bought so many of these that when I call, they already have one boxed and labeled with my address on it!!!!
He never offered to give me one even when it was under warranty. (5 for my 5660, 3 for my 4380)
Always worth a try though.... I never tried the "I hear this is a design flaw" tact.... Maybe I should have???
Everytime I see this board, I get pissed.... Guess that is why I don't post much anymore.... Just brings back the anger of these stupid Polystyrene covers... (AKA THE CHEAPEST PLASTIC IN THE WORLD).
Good Luck though.....
And no, loosening the hinges won't fix it. Done that... Cracked...

That is a good one... Didn't think about that!!!
He is a good guy though.... always helpful.... I'm pretty sure his hands are tied on doing anything "extra"....

Yeah David was always cool with me. I agree with the tied hands thing. They are in business to make money and he has bosses just like we do. I wonder if he's the only one who speaks english fluently enough to deal with the general public? Anyway good luck.

My 8880 had the same problem too. I had contact Sager by email. What they told me is that they dont sell the LCD cover anymore. What the hell?!!

This is a major design/setup flaw in the 5600 series Sager & Prostar. I have a 5640 Prostar which acquired those cracks around the hinges....it is caused by the hinges being cracked too tight. The problem is, there seems to be no way to get to the actual hinge screw without cracking open the plastic hinge encasements...which I did.

When I got a good look at everything (after the bezel was completely removed, I realized that the actual metal frame around the LCD had broken on the right side ! After cracking the hinge encasements open, I adjusted the hinges just tight enough to hold the LCD upright while open....very little friction/tension....I had to loosen the right side completely, since the metal frame was broken and could no longer stand ANY pressure. With the left side adjusted carefully, I've reduced the tension to just the right level where there is no more stress on the "already broken" bezel.......After re-assembly, the lid works nicely (looks like crap) and I am using it daily....I sure wish we could have collectively caused a stink at Prostar.Sager and got this problem covered, but it seems it is too late.
