I miss my XPS2 already.

Well I did it. I joined the ranks of the i9300 owners.
After many frustrating e-mails where I received canned responses not even acknowledgeing the qustion I canceled my XSP2 order. I hope Small Business support will be more helpfull. It wont take much.

Also, I could not justify the expense since the i9300 suits my 'needs' just fine. I do prefer the look of the XPS2 and I think the lights would have been cool too.
Oh well, after all is said and done by ordering with the 35% off cupon. I saved around $1300 over what I had spent on the XPS2 for the same config. Note I did order the 962 printer also and SB has the free printer which helps bump the number. I Also got a spare battery and a spare ac adapter which i did not have before.

Old order:
XPS2 $3447.22
962 printer $181.46 (and thats with a $25 off coupon)
Total $3628.68 - $75 dell discount becaue customer service could not answer my question.
Grand Total $3553.68

New Order:
Total $2,549.27 - $130 Mail in rebate
Grand Total $2419.27

SAVED = $1134.41 + Spare 80Whr Battery and spare AC adapter.
Edit: Note All prices include tax and shipping.

Oh and as a bonus, Shipping date
Was April 12th.
Now March 21.
Gain of 22 days.

Now i gotsta edit my sig.

Gotta look at the bright side.
Since I was seriously considering the i9200
with the i9300 i have gained:

1. Glossy WUXGA (woot.. nice on the eyes and no sparkleys i hope)
2. Improved graphics: go6800 vs mr9700 (better frame rates)
3. Sonoma technolgy (uh...probaly wont notice anything)
4. Better battery life than XPS2. (yet to be seen how much)

So in the end, I win.
HA!

But I still dont have a lappy to hold yet.
But its only 13 days away from shipping and not 35 days.

And just maybe a few of us can start some I9200/I9300 mod posts in the Dell Mods Thread. (99% I8600 centric) I too like Blue LED's! And thinking maybe some better cooling is always a good thing, I can never leave anything stock. (want to OC my P-M 1.6 too real bad....)

Hmm, which future posts will we see more often?

1) How do I add LEDs to my 9300?
2) How do I get the more conservative 9300 lid for my XPS2?

Bottom line: everybody wants what they don't have.

Something Interesting:

On my XPS2 i orderd the 80Gb drive.
The order stats page said it was the 5400 RPM drive.

On my i9300 since i had a 35% off coupon it really only cost $38 to upgrade to the 100Gb drive so i did.

Now I have:
"100GB HARD DRIVE,I9300 (4200RPM)"

Guess the 100Gb drives are 4200RPM.

Oh well, it should be quite.

I hope more people cancel their XPS 2 orders so I can get bumped further ahead in the queue.

May I ask you why you changed your order from the XPS2 to the 9300? I also have an XPS2 on order and am now considering cancelling to order the 9300 as well. I'm particularly interested in getting better battery life. But I hesitate to do this at this point because nowhere have I found any published battery test results for the 9300. I asked Dell yesterday what the battery life for the 9300 is, and they told me 2-1/2 to 3 hours, which when you think about it, sounds about right when compared to the 2 hours published for the XPS2 battery life. Both machines are very similar, so the main cause for different battery life would be the difference between the 6800 and the 6800 Ultra. Since the 6800 Ultra uses GDDR3 memory and the 6800 uses GDDR1 memory (which consumes more power than GDDR3), this would actually be a point in the XPS2's favor for better battery life, although other factors would likely outweigh this benefit.

Anyway, I'm waiting to hear about official battery test results before I make my final decision.

Thanks in advance for your answer to my question.

I restarted my order today cause I added the 7200RPM drive and upgraded the processor to 2.13ghz, I didn't really want to but I got a small gift certificate so I upgraded it and got a credit on my account, this set me back 7 days. My estimated delivery date was 04/01/05 and now it's 04/08/05. so I hope that when you guys get it you post some good reviews

I think the estimated ship date is bologna anyway. I ordered a week ago and my est. ship date is 4/11 vs your 4/08 yet you ordered after me. Wife's cousin just placed an order tonight and his est. ship date is the same as yours. Doesn't make sense to think newer orders are placed ahead in line of older ones.

The main reason I switched was the cost.
I am a software engineer and only a casual gamer. I play Wow, some far cry and old school counter strike at friends house. With XPS2 I would have huge bragging rights over some RL friends of 20+ years i play with. When I ordered the XPS2 there was only $300 difference. I like the look of the XPS2 and think its nice enough for my work environment(among other things we make some online games). The cool leds were a bonus that I lost. I think the new look of the dells are better but still boring business look. I got the Mediterranean blue quick snap cover so that helps some.

With the 35% coupon that $300 went to $1300. I don’t NEED the 6800 ULTRA(want yes, need no) Also the battery life is a great bonus and battery is the number one thing that kept me from ordering an Alien ware 7700 back in January. Based on Toms hardware review the regular 6800 consumes 27 watts and the Ultra consumes 64ish watts.
9300 will have better battery life but no one knows exactly how much.

I will be watching for more coupons in the next few weeks for the XPS2 just in case it drops to a range of less than $500. I doubt it will before my 21 days of i9300 are up, but it could.

I can think of a lot of things to do with the extra $1300. My two and a half year old LOVES Filet Minion and Salmon and Cheerios.

One of the reasons I added the 9cell to my I9300 order (had the 6cell on my 9200) I figure the 9300 may use a tad more juice...and for the rare time it is unplugged it might be a good thing to have those 3 extra cells....even if they add a smidge more weight....
I have it worse than all of ya - I have BOTH the i9300 (with the coupon) and the XPS 2 on order right now. I haven't canceled the i9300 yet, so maybe one of you lucky slobs will get the one currently earmarked for me

In my case, I wanted the XPS 2 but as was the OP I was tempted away by the 35% off coupon. Then I discovered I qualified for EPP, which is an additional 12% off the home XPS 2 special AND gives a free upgrade from 3 to 4 years on the on site, nights and weekends warranty.

In the end, the price difference to me came out to about $580+ between my 9300 and XPS 2, with all discounts (EPP won't stack with the 35% coupon in case you wondered, nothing does). That $580 got me the 2.13 CPU and the 6800 Ultra, plus the extra year on the warranty. Of course, if it hadn't been for the EPP - which I know a lot of people don't qualify for, although it is surprising how many companies have it - this would have been a different story, and I would be getting my 9300 at the end of next week instead of the XPS 2 the first week of April
post #19 of 53
I have both on order also. Ordered the 9300 today w/35%. Price difference between xps2 & 9300 is a little over $600.

I'm waiting for a nicer coupon for xps2 or some reviews to sway me in the right direction.

You feed your 2 yr old filet minon?

ixian: When's the estimated ship date on ur xps 2 and when did you place the order? I placed mine 1 week ago and it says 4/11 but I noticed guys that are placing new orders are getting a 4/8 expected ship date. I'll be extremely pissed if they got put ahead in line.
