Updating the video drivers in the 8104 - Page 2

Hi, I've updated my video card drivers to the latest ATI 5.3's without using the hack, you just perform the manual upgrade, also using the control panel as well....

What are the real specs of the X700 suppose to be? I know some laptop companies will underclock a little so I just want to know what the factory default is suppose to be.

Also if I overclock just a little like 365/315 or something around there, will I see a significant increase in graphics quality or will it really make no difference?

Are you working with the 8103 or 8104? If so, I can give you some numbers to start off with. The tool is pretty intuitive, but if you need some help just ask.

If you just want to experiment, be careful: make sure you use the tools provided with the program, don't just crank up the meter by itself. You can stop the tool anytime, and it will stop where you tell it to.

How do you save the settings with this program? I changed to 370/340 and click "Set Clock" then closed it, reopened still set, but then when I rebooted it was back to default..

nvm found it!

I also tried to install the 5.3 drivers, but with no luck. It just says my graphics card isn't supported and won't let me install. Although so far the orginal drivers are working great. Any suggestions?

Hi acouch21, yes I have. Once you've tried to install the drivers in the normal way and it'd bleated on about the hardware you will find that a folder called ATI has been created.
Now you need to do a manual driver upgrade of the video card so follow these instructions.
1) Go to device manager, right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware - device manager.
2) Click on the plus next to displayadaptors and double click on the adaptor shown.
3) Select the driver tab and then update driver.
4) If you've SP2 then click on not at this time, otherwise click on install from a specific location, then don't search, then next.
On the next screen select have disc.
5) Now you need to browse to the ATI and keep on browsing until you get to the driver and then the 2kxp_inf folders. Now choose the c2_2177 inf
6) Choose the correct adaptor description and load the files.
7) After rebooting navigate down the ATI folder until you get to open the CPanel folder, click on setup and it will install the control panel. Lastly, once you're sure things have been installed correctly, delete the ATI folder as it is no longer required.
Good luck.....

Or...you can now get Patje's Mod Tool and apply it to either the Catalyst Control Center Set or the ordinary drivers. http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/
Tada.

Is PowerPlay available with the new Catalyst drivers? Is it in both Control Center and Control Panel versions?

Performance and stability wise, is it worth upgrading?

Thanks,
EnF

Works well as far as I'm concerned. Nothing seems to be missing...too bad overdrive doesn't work with mobility cards though.

Hi, I agree but then the overdrive only works with XT versions of some ATI's cards....

Hi, I'm not sure really, I don't do benchmarks and the only game I have on this laptop is quake 2....
