X600 in D810 3dmark03 and 05

Default system, all original dell software on small 40G 4500rpm hard drive

D810 with X600, 740 1.7 with 256 and then 256+512 ram (didnt change the 3dmark05 score, and 3dmark03 done with the 768mb only)

Only change from out of the box state was used downloaded omega drivers, left all settings in future mark standard for testing and left all normal software on computer, with it on ac power

3dmark05 1255 (ouch)
3dmark03 3165

the latter compares well to the 8600 with an 1.7 processor (circa 2800) from forum

I'll retest when I get the ram up to 1Gig but the testing seems not be dependent upon ram, at least not the 05 test anyway

Those benchmarks seem fairly consistent considering the mobility x600 is a mobility 9600/9700 core adapted to function on PCI-E platforms.

for comparison

my desk top which is a penshionable 18months old, and a

dell 8300, 1.25Gigs ram, 2.6 P4 128mb Nvidia 5200

3dmarks03 1116

versus 3165 for the 128mb X600 in the d810

Well, if the laptop does what you want it to do benchmarks are irrelevant. It matters more if you are getting the features and performance you need from it... So don't worry about the 3DMark Score...

unless you are playing games on your laptop

and with 1Gig 533 dual channel installed

and PCWORLD comaprison X600 to ATI chipsets

Below is from test results, its free, google pcworld

Best video results for similar PCs
This table shows the best average scores we have recorded for a particular video board and driver for systems with a CPU and MHz similar to yours. The first row represents the current score for this system. Remember that PC Pitstop's test measures 2D performance; the speed of a particular board on 3D applications such as games may be very different. Also, video performance and system reliability can vary greatly as a function of the drivers that are being used. A driver that provides the highest score may not provide the best image quality and/or system stability.

The 3dmark numbers are exactly what all have been stating.
X600 is about the same as mr9600, or a tad slower than mr9700.

See sig for mr9700 scrores tested with one stick of 512meg ram.

You can also check out Tom's Hardware video guides, as he has stats for many different games, and the x600 actually does worse in real world games than it does in 3dmark (compared to mr9600)

not entirely correct. I have a friend with a Acer Travelmate 4002 (9700M 64mb) and I have a Travelmate 4601 (X600 64mb). I get a little higher scores in 3Dmark2001/2003 than he does.

Here is an example from Tom's:

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...charts-07.html
FarCry
AMD monster state of the art system with A64 4000+
x300 scores 17.6
x600 scores 21.6

now same test but with AGP card, in old 3.2GHz P4 system
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...charts-08.html
9600 Pro scores 22.4
9700 scores 30.6

All of the above were same tests on "desktop versions", so subtract about 10% from each to get a rough idea of mobile scores. Note that the x300 and x600 were tested in a state of the art PC, yet still couldn't keep up with old and slow P4. Don't even need to go into the memory speed differences. Everything in these tests gives a huge advantage to the x300 and x600, yet they don't perform. In identical PC's it would be no contest at all.

Many other benches there to compare as well.

If you want an upgrade to a mr9600 laptop, you will need to get at least one with an x700 or go6600 in it. Otherwise, you would be taking a step backwards.

you can't compare the desktop 9700 whit anything in the laptop world since it's not the same core design.

Dell Latitude 810
2.0ghz, 1 gig ram, X600, UXGA, 60gig/5400rpm

3D Mark 05 = 1295

(just came in yesterday, loaded all the latest drivers and tweaks)..
Just for comparison.. I ran it on my current system..

Dell Inspiron 8600
2.0ghz, 2gig ram, 9600 Turbo, 60gig/7200rpm

3D Mark 05 = 1066

Latest drivers / tweaks

so about

30% better than 8600 based on that test

not too bad, best bit is that it is possible to be ungraded in future

..well its easy enough to take the pci module out, hopefully they will offer an x800 in the future to fit
post #15 of 16
I am thinking that the x300 can run with the 9600 in your 8600 Mac640. Its nice that you have the x600 which is better yet, but I am much more pleased with my x300 knowing that it at least runs with the 9600. I just got 1001 3dmarks and believe that once I do a proper test I can attain at least 1050 if not 1100.

d810

only for me, dextius (previous poster) had both and cmpared them for us

Yep, looks like the big news is that the X300 is really fast and the X600 is not that much faster

Can anyone help me tweak the x600 settings in radlink rather than me break something, never oc anything before
