d810 screen

Just got d810 with samsung screen SW+ 1680x1050 pixels native resolution, Settings are dpi120 default when received

No dead pixels, no light bleed, but bit dissapointed with the screen overall in comparison to my desktop dell 17" LCD ultrasharp and with friends toshiba "shiny" screens

Complaints are lack of sharpness and too much "white"

Does anyone with an d810 or d800 or 8600 with similar screen type or resolution have tips for the optimum sharpness at native resolution of 1680x1050

Other than screen the laptop is fantastic. Quiet, fast, very sturdy construction, and the intel wireless is excellent

thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "sharpness", but definitely reset the DPI to 96 and see if that helps.

Too much white? If the driver allows you to adjust "color temperature," try making it warmer. Also, play around with the gamma correction.

If the driver doesn't let you change these things, then look for a little program called PowerStrip.

I have a D810, and I am very happy with the screen, it's very sharp and like you no dead pixel or any crap... I do a lot of modeling and graphic, and it's a pleasure to work with this laptop!

thks dellbert

I followed your advice and reset to 96dpi, what a difference, night and day

sharpness returned and the whiteness on colour was solved for my eyes by playing with the driver settings

I also reset the icon size from 48 to 32

Now VERY happy with screen, although the 17" ultrasharp of my 8300 still looks better to me. It may be just an adjustment thing, with that native being 1280 x 1024 pixels

I do however love the small form factor of the d810. its much smaller than I envisaged and built very tough

For anyone out there looking at purchasing, this resolution is great

Dellbert, in the old days it would be word of mouth or having to buy specific computer magazines to find things out. Thanks for the quick reply. Proves the worth of this forum, and the internet!

PS my friends have toshiba with the glossy finish, that screen is very easy on the eyes. The reflections are a pain though, although I love the gloss, for my laptop enviroment matt finish is best

i got my exchange d810 and found that the lcd really sucks while i love the lcd on old d810. so I went and swapped both lcds. i know i am brave for doing that but hey, i got a degree in computer support. so it comes to good use. ;-)
