finally...

Just placed my order for a decked out 8600 a few minutes ago. This rules!
Damn, I'd be pissed if I would have already ordered one.

I've got a M60 "In-Production" at the moment. Was going to order in early August and put it off. With the free LCD that you can sell on ebay for $400 easy and $500 trade-in options I think it's a better deal than the D800 or I8600 at the moment
post #4 of 30
Maybe true jimg, but that free LCD deal ends today
post #5 of 30
Get it while they're hot or so the saying goes...

Has anybody else who recently purchased a M60 used the trade-in program? I've been watching a couple old compaq, hp, and apple products on ebay to bid on and send in for the $500 rebate.

My laptop should be here by 9/23 but the way I understand it I have until end of October to apply for the trade-in rebate.

I ordered the m60 at work with 2 gigs of ram (boss paid for it). Now I'm gonna order the 8600 for home use. Too bad I can't afford 2 gigs of ram for this guy...

Could dell cost any more? I mean honestly its nuts how much these machines are now. Not that I care so much cause Im getting a 5680 - but its the principle
post #8 of 30
I got a decked out 8600 for less than $2000 including PM 1.6, 60 GB 7200 drive, 512 RAM, GFX5650, DVD Writer, TrueMobile 1300, Case, 2 year at home warranty, WSXGA+, thats by far the best deal I've ran across by any means. I couldn't price a Sager for that price if I tried.
My question then - How? If I head on over to the small business dell site and try configure that I get .... at least $2700.

Well first, Dell Small business is always more expensive, Dell home's offer comes currently with a free DVD Writer and 250 dollars off. Second, there is a -10 % coupon floating around the Internet as well, among others. Third, with Dell Home you dont pay tax. 4th, I called in my order and got them to throw in free shipping and free case= my total of 1988 plus change.

Hrmm - every other site I looked at said dell small B was cheaper - I shall check this out.

Just checked it out - couldnt find the 10% coupon - Still think 5680 is a better deal - though I admit the PM is a nice chip

i just hope one of them "floats" my way when i order an 8600 somtime in the next few day
post #13 of 30
The 10% coupon expired on Sept. 1st. They'll be others I'm sure. I believe I found mine through this site.

About to follow suit and order this similar setup..

Having trouble find a 10% off coupon however, most all I find are for small business, not home office.

Able to float something this direction?
wish I had a coupon

i called and asked for free shipping...we both had a good laugh and then I hung up
post #17 of 30
I just had a great conversation on the phone with them. Got a few free goodies, like a case, and cables..... but didn't try for the shipping.

Better yet, they agreed to keep my order on record, without actually putting it through yet (gives me time to clear enough money onto the credit card, and also find a coupon).

All the deals end today, like free upgrades and the rebate for $250... but since my order record was made today, those deals will still be in place when the order actually goes through.

Now all I need is a coupon +)

happy?

hehehe

I wish I could help except for the discounts I knew of all expired on Sept. 2nd. I'll let you know if I run across any, also some people sell them on ebay, believe it or not, you may want to search there too...also if you haven't already, register at Dell they periodically email out specials not posted on there site. Good luck on getting your dell dude!

i have heard the Small Biz was cheaper ... if you go sign up with them using that small biz newsletter, they will send out a 10% coupon code good for a few days .. but it will probably take a few days to get it. Or when a new one comes out ...

On your Third point above -- how the heck do they not charge tax ... especially on "home" (end-user) orders ?? They've always charged tax from what I've seen.

seemed like you got a good deal... -ot

Truth is its best to place your order with both home and small business to see what nets you the best deal. I've seen cases where small business comes up less and vice versa. Dell changes their specials every week and every week it could be different. Dell doesn't charge tax on orders on home orders in several states. This is their statement concerning tax:

Dell Home Systems collects tax on orders to Texas, Kentucky, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee, Idaho, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. For shipments to other states, tax relates to the third party service contract only. The purchaser is responsible for remitting any uncollected tax on their order directly to the local tax authorities.

They do, however, charge tax for all small business orders taken so for me its usually the no-brainer, more cost effective for the home purchase because of the no tax deal, I just hope the franchise tax board doesn't come knocking on my door anytime soon.
