hey guys, i just got my 6000 (finally) and currently making full reformat. Where can I find the drivers for the SD Card reader? and how bout applications for that too?

not on the CD? you can try the website? if not try using the 700m's

I know there are no programs for it... I may be wrong, but there may not be any extra drivers needed... it's probably supported in the chipset drivers.

i just did a clean install on my 6000 and used the driver for the sd from my 700m and it works after i tested it.

I assume this is the same SD card reader as in the i9300...
Does the card show up in Explorer just like any other removable media and is it hotswappable?
Also, what's the speed limit for the SD card interface? Will it handle the new SanDisk Extreme III SD cards with 20MB/s read/write speed?

My lappy did not come with a driver cd. the download page of the i6000 does not have any specific dowload for the SD card reader but i just found out that the driver is integrated into the notebook system software.

I did a reformat also, and loaded the notebook system software. I have a 32mb MMC card (which is practically the same as an SD card from what I understand), but do not see the memory device/drive listed in "My Computer" upon insertion. When I look in device manager, I have no yellow exclamation points which leads me to believe that everything is loaded and working properly.

As BGD asked, can someone verify that the card shows up in Explorer like any other removable media?

Thanks Xarthan. Does the XP window automatically pop up... the one that prompts you, "...device found. what do you want to do?" In any case, I guess my next step is to try another sd/mmc card, but I'd hate to purchase one just to test this - oh well.

Anyone wanna link the 700m drivers, I cant seem to find them. I would really like to have use of this slot (i6000).

The device found pops up when the drivers are installed, but after that it dosen't.

Darakian, the drivers can be found on the 6000 driver page. It is linked under Texas Instrament something slot

Maybe its the sleep deprivation but I am not seeing it, nor does searching for the words "texas" or "slot" bring anything up.

Here's the one for 700m, it might work?

You can try looking at the 9300 also

I can't believe it's not popping up for you. In the past couple of months I have reloaded both my 9300 and wife's 6000 with XP Pro. Both times I installed the drivers from a SD card from that slot. Meaning, none of the drivers from Dell's site were loaded for me to access the SD card slot.

I do remember a thread where someone mentioned that the latest version (update maybe) for XP contained the drivers and none from Dell were necessary. Maybe you should make sure XP is fully updated from the MS website and see if that helps.

That SD slot does come in quite handy. Good luck.

yeah, i love it. great with the canon sd series

one thing i hate is the location. When i have headphones or external speakers pluged in its a PAIN to use it. talk about bad design
