yah see for me, i pretty much buy every year, or less, a new notebook.. BUT.. spending money while looking for work ain't the greatest of ideas anyway.. which aids with the decision to wait

True, if you don't have the money, wait, however, even if the first G5 PowerBooks come out tomorrow I'd rather have a G4. The G4s have all the bugs worked out now, and Apple is notorious for having very buggy first revision products.

And yes, Phoenix, no one disputes the fact that 64 bit is the future, however, there are no major advantages at this current time to buy 64 bit. By the time software stops coming in 32 bit your computer will be so out of date anyway that you'll probably've upgraded several times already.

The advantages of 64 bit right now over 32 bit are slim and nowhere near enough to warrant waiting for a G5 PowerBook if you're in the market for one now.

it's nto a don't have the money thing. it's a 'is it wise to spend it on a computer when i have one that works fine" thing. considering how new the sony is i think i'd be having this thought regardless of my other situations.. but.. given the situations it makes it easier

tiger is going to take full advantage of 64 bit and read about xcode 2 as well it will let devlopers recomplie apps to take advantage of 64 bit porcessing as well but at the same time not dropping 32 bit in anyway, guys we are talking about mac os x here not windows.

Tiger won't take full advantage of 64 bit processors as Tiger itself isn't going to be 64 bit. Tiger is like Windows 95 in the fact that it's still mostly 32 bit but it's starting to add more and more 64 bit support. The next version of OS X will most likely have a full 64 bit version.
