Not too good at all. Actually, my iXPS has locked up in the past due to pressing Fn+Z+R.

I'm running an iXPS. I see a sticker with a small barcode and A05 directly on one of the memory holder. There is another sticker directly on the back of the panel cover that as a A00 on it. I'm also running XP Pro (completely updated), MR9700, 1GB Ram, 100 GB hd.

When the computer wakes up from hibernation, there is no fan noise at all. When waking up from standby, the fans kick in for about 10 seconds then spin back down. I noticed that when I do a Fn-z-r now, the fans will spin up to almost 5,000 RPM. Once I exit the fan control, the fans will slow down again. Also, I can't remember what the original fan control looked like in with the previous bios, but I'm pretty sure it was different.

In the A05 Bios, I had major problems coming out of standby. Not only would the fans be trying to hover the computer, the system would run very sluggishly. The only way to fix this was to reboot. I had no problems coming out of hibernation with A05 though.

Just a dumb question, but if someone loads the A06 Bios and can't get the fan control, couldn't they just re-flash with the A05 again?

Sorry if my lack of clarity on which system I upgraded cause anyone problems. So far, A06 has been a big help to my issues on the XPS.

i have installed A06 on my iXPS and now the fans seem to function more predictably. Just before this update came out I was getting fan throtling so high that I could hardly hear my Tv. Now they only throtle when I am gaming or for brief period during normal use. Who cares about fn+z+r no longer working. As long as the fans do their job and do not interupt your ability to use your system. MHO.

Good opinion bajan, but most of the overclockers here need their fan control, 'cuz the laptop needs to stay frosty. I don't do any overclocking on my XPS, so I'm not missin' it either, but down the road when I've still got this lappy, and a new Dell, I'm gonna wish I had it so I can do some overclocking experimentation. Given that Dell likely removed the function, that seems unlikely for me now, unless I can flash backwards. Need to see if I have the A05 bios update in my installer folder.

If people really want fan control why dont they just use I8kfanGUI. A new version just came out which supports the i9100/XPS fan control better. Check it out here.

MajestacaL, did you try the newest version? If not you should try it out.

There is an update? I went to the I8k site and clicked on the update. It did nothing but go to a white page on my browser with some registry thing.

just another quick note about this new bios, there is NO overclocking, dell found a way to keep us from oc'ing with this new bios. so no ocing and no fan control means no a06 for me
post #75 of 104
What OC settings you are talking about that were in A05 and disapeared in A06? Or CPUFSB does not work now?
There is still no fix for the errors in FanGUI. It is no good with the errors.

So how did the upgrade work out?
I´ve still updated my Dell 9100 and it works fine with CPUFSB and with I8KFAN. But no FN+Z+R. Shit. But the fans are slower than before and dont run so often as before i updated.

BUT SHIT I MISS FN+Z+R AN I THINK I UPDATE MY 9100 WITH THE A05 BACK !!

Regards
