So, are you going to keep the 9200 ... or are you going to send it back and get the 9300??

<-- Returned my 9200 in January. Just ordered the 9300 below.

Too late for me to turn it back, but I'm still happy. I have it now, and don't have to wait for the new one to arrive.

I *may* sell one of our 9200's, but I want to see the 9300 first.

The 9200 gets 5+ hours on a 9-cell, the 9300 gets around 3.

The 9200 WUXGA is anti-glare, the 9300 is glossy.

The 9200 runs completely silent 90% of the time, the 9300 has fans on 100% of the time.

The 9200 runs all games fine, but the 9300 has much better benchmark scores.

In other words, it's not an easy decision for me.

I am returning my 9200 for the 9300. For roughly $200 I was able to get the new 256MB Nvidia card and the WUXGA! Couldn't pass it up.

Keeping our 9200 here.

I didn't realise the battery time was so much better with the 9200. It is neat being able to go all afternoon on battery. Hmm.. I could see how the 9200 could be preferred for certain users.

How do you know the fan for the 9300 is on 100% of the time? That might explain the decrease in battery life.

That's been the report from the few people who have received their 9300's: the fan is always on, but it's pretty quiet. By far, the biggest consumer of power on the 9300 is the go6800. The fan doesn't take much.

The breakdown should be something like this:

go6800: 15-30W
CPU: 10-20W
LCD: 7W
everything else: 5W

I'm keeping my 9200. Prices will fall later this year, when there's a huge great deal then I may jump and convert.

This thread though is interesting to me as there is another topic on here about the 9200 fans. I had thought that my 9200 was completely silent, but now one of the fans is always on low. I thought that I had misremembered because several posted that their fan is now always on low, as well....so now I'm confused again.

I use i8FanGui, so my fans are off unless the temp goes over 30C, which rarely happens. I'm not sure what temps the 9300 is running at, but one report was of GPU temps around 50C, so I assume it needs to run the fans.

i'd keep it if i had one, cause it's already a collector's item

Keeping my I9200.
This is a never-ending game. Will people simply stop at the 9300? When Dell releases the 9400 in 6 months, will you upgrade again?
Not really worth it, in my opinion.
I've got my 9200, it runs perfectly, and I intend to keep it for a good while.

I highly doubt that there will be a new model replacing the i9300 probably until this time next year when the Yonah's come out. And know Intel and their fabrication problems of late, its introduction might be delayed and a new Dell system might not come out until May 2006. We all know that Dell rarely leads the pack in coming out with new technology, they just bring stuff out when it is profitable to do so in mass quantities.

Yes! The trick is to buy low and sell high. Try to catch the best deal you can on your Dell, and you should be able to sell it without taking a loss, and then upgrade to the next model. In fact, I've made a little money selling a couple of my old machines. I figure my 10th upgrade should be free

But the 9200 is a *very* nice machine. I've pretty much crossed the XPS2 off my list now due to the battery life, heat, and the relatively good performance and price of the 9300. The 9200 beats the 9300 by a wide margin for battery life, though, so if that's imporatant to you, there is *zero* reason to upgrade.

A keeper for me. Got an almost perfect Samsung WXGA+ LCD and perform task well for my need. Since Dell use various LCD models from various suppliers, who knows if I will get a screen like this in a new machine.

Definitely keeping the 9200.

About the 9300 fans .. why would they run all the time? Doesnt the fangui program work on the 9300?

If I didnt use fangui program on my 9200, I think the fans would be onall the time as well. Whats the difference?

On a related note, I am wondering how well the 9200 will do during summer time, when the average room temperature is at least 10 degrees (f) higher.
