Spend the extra on CPU, 60GB HD, or DVD-RW on the 9300

Ok, for the 9300, would you spend the extra 100 or so for either the 60GB 7200RPM HD(pretend you wouldn't get it from newegg later) OR the 1.73 CPU OR the DVD-RW Drive?

Also, I ordered a 9300 through Small Business for 1370 with the 35% off without one of the above upgrades. But with the new 750 off, I can get a 9300 in the Home section with one of the above upgrades (so that the order is over 2000 for the coupon to work) and it will be cheaper than my Small Business order. The 750 off only works for Dell Home. The configured cart in front of me on the Dell Home site is just about $1300 with one of the above upgrades. I want to take advantage of the 750 off, so what should I do? I have already placed my order thru Small Biz, so how do you think Dell could help me out??

As always, thanks!!

I would get the 7200rpm HD because the slow HD's are always the bottleneck of any system. However, if you will be thinking about burning DVDs someday, then you should get the DVD writer. This is assuming that your are not gonna buy a DVD burner (internal or external) from newegg either at a later point, like you said with the HD. On the hand, if you are going to spend some money to upgrade your system at a later date, I would suggest that you spend your current $100 on the CPU because that is the most expensive to upgrade later and also requires more work. Hope this help.

One possibility is sticking with a 40GB internal drive, and buying an 80GB external drive for cheaper than just upgrading to 60.

7200

There are basically two schools of thought:

1) Go with the option that will give you the highest performance impact: 60GB@7200
2) Go with the option that will be hardest to upgrade later: CPU@1.73GHz

Personally, I never burn DVDs on my lappy, but if that's something you plan to do a lot, then go with the DVD burner

Since I have no immediate need for a DVD burner, I think I will go with the 7200. I am going to call tomorrow to see if I can get it all straightened out. Hopefully they will be most helpful.

I would go with the higher CPU - in a course of 2-3 years other things can be upgraded with better and/or cheaper parts (think HD-DVD drive, 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD / 16x DVD-RW).

So if you have no need for a DVD burner, you really only have to ways to go.

1) If you are not planning to spend anymore money on upgrading to a faster HD at a later time, say in a year, then you should get the 60GB 7200 rpm drive with the extra $100;
2) If you are willing to spend let say $150 next year to upgrade to a faster HD, then you should get the faster processor because a CPU would most likely cost more than the HD. Especially when Dell keeps having the 20% off HD deals or newegg with there always low prices.
