I would say the 'TrueLife' display would be the biggest and most attractive advantage over the 9200. Also, for those people who don't game but want a decent dedicated GPU (such as the X300) for other tasks, then the added battery life would be the main benefit while still enjoying that brilliant screen (especially if the X300 pulls less juice than the MR9700).

Bump! We just got confirmation that the X300 in the i6000 is clocked at 300/216. It's probably safe to assume the 9300 with X300 has the same.

Saw the WXGA+ in an IT Show in Singapore. It is NOT glossy. The hard drives are 5400 rpm other than the 60GB 7200rpm, but that is for Singapore. My educated guess is that it is the same worldwide, since they come from the same place...

Cosworth:

Was that an internal/testing or retail 9300 system? I've seen on a couple reviews that used pre-releases testing systems, they didn't have a glossy screen even in the wuxga.

There are regional variations regarding the processor as the UK I9300 is available with the 2.13GHz 770 and not the 760

Or is it that on the Ultra that the second heat pipe shares and is connected with the motherboard chipset heat pipe? In which case you just get the whole heat pipe section with the Ultra card, and replace not only the video card but the motherboard chipset heatsink and heat pipe.

I'm fairly sure that is the case based on these images.

It's just a different setup. You could probably swap the video card if you got a new heat sink for system chips. Or maybe you'll just end up swapping all of the XPS2 guts into your 9300 chassis

Hmm, I just noticed a couple things from those pictures:

1) Dell appears to be using two different mobo makers, Compal and GCE.

2) The XPS2 and 9300 mobos appear to have the same part number, so they may in fact be the same mobo. LA-2171.

Retail. From what I heard from the Dell guy, only Truelife is glossy.

I notice that at the to exhaust vents on the iXPS there is an extra block of copper, whereas on the 9300 it's not. Looks like plastic or a cheaper metal.

Bump, just to help counter-act the increasing number of repetative posts.

anybody updated to the bios 2......if so is it safe to do it
post #34 of 36
One most likely will not be able to upgrade the videocard, since the A/C is different on the two, the Ultra is just too power hungry. That is the only reason I can see for having different power sources.
Bump since we're getting some of these same questions again.

BTW, it should be noted that the GDDR VRAM in the go6800 is rated at 600MHz, so Dell is underclocking it at 590MHz. Technically, changing the clock to 600MHz is not overclocking

Yes, it has been confirmed that at least the True Life WUXGA display is glossy. No confirmation for the WXGA yet, but according to Dell reps it is also glossy.
I've heard that the WXGA+ is not glossy....guess we'll all find out soon enough though.
XGA is not GLOSSY. I have one to prove it and I hate it...It is being returned. Ordered and received 2nd 9300 w/WUXGA that I love but I think I am returning it too for a 6000. 9300 is quite big to lug on plane and around town
