Can't burn any cds

I have a Dell 700m with a removable sony cdrw/dvd combo drive. Well I can't seem to be able to burn any cds. I'm using Nero and when I try to burn a cd it can't recognize the cd drive. The only available option is "image recorder". The thing is, I can load cds fine it just won't allow me to burn cds. I also enabled the burning feature in propertiers so I don't know what's wrong. I also update the drivers from the Dell site. I've tried other burning programs(media player and real player) and it still doesn't work. I have the cdx830e model by the way.

Does anybody know what it won't allow me to burn any cds?

Have you just tried dragging and dropping with win XP's burner?

Otherwise phone dell.

N.B. - Does it play DVD's?

the integrated burner in XP is useless, in nero click on Recorder at the top, then click on Choose recorder, select the only other recorder other than image recorder, then go back to your compilation, you should see near the top of the nero window a drop down box with your real cd/dvdburner. try again to burn but TEST the cd first before burning it for real, or use a CDRW

and i dont think phoning dell will help, they know less than you or me.

EDIT: also if you have a newer burner i recommend updating nero, i have 6.6.0.8 Enterprise edition, if you have an older version like 6.1.x.x your burner may not be supported unless you upgrade.

I tried changing the recorder type with nero, but my sony is not listed as a choice. With the other programs, it won't let me burn at all. I just don't understand why I can open cds and load them, but I can't burn anything. The laptop will not recognize it as a burner device at all. WHAT GIVES? Other programs won't allow me to burn either.

Anybody know????
