Which Wireless Card?

Which Wireless card would you Reccomend? The Dell 1350 or the Intel 2200? Do these protrude from the system at all? Or are they integrated?

They come in both internal (WLAN, aka miniPCI) cards and external (PCMCIA) cards. There's schools of thought both ways; I prefer the Dell cards. In fact, I've taken the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card out of my 700m and replaced it with my Dell TrueMobile 1450.

For the wireless card that comes with a laptop, 99% of them are the internal WLAN card (unless it specifically says otherwise.) They are inside the laptop, and nothing protrudes. The antenna is around the screen, on the inside.

Do a search, as many posts have been made on this (and several by me in the last few days, due to all the issues I had with the Intel card.)

I'd go with the Intel 2200. Think you are going to find split answers on this one though.

I'd go for the Intel card for one and only reason: Centrino Sticker

I went with the 2915 Intel model. Ive read varying opinions so I just decided to go with the new card. My 700m should show up early next week (buggers likely shipped it 3 day ground instead of the 2 day free option that I selected in ordering..).

If you have any issues, you can do what I did: call Dell and have them replace it with the same Dell card (in my case, a Dell Wireless 1350.) AND the CSR tol dme to keep the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card.

So I got the Centrino sticker, and still got the Dell Wireless card I wanted.

those are both internal mini-pci cards...

it is really a matter of preference, i'd just go with the cheaper one which is the dell 1350 i believe

with that said, you won't get centrino sticker if you go with the dell...and if bios takes advantage of centrino etc, it "could" improve performance and integration as far as battery consumption etc if you went with the intel one

wouldn't get intel 2915 unless you have or have access to wireless A and find that it is of use to you..just extra money for no reason (kind of like people who have 2GB RAM in their 700m)

The 2915 was free when I ordered my 700m but because of the "discussions" about the Intel card, I had them put in the 1350. I don't care about that weenie Centrino sticker because this one is waaay cooler

Mine came with the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915 Dual Band 802.11a/b/g, but I'm waiting for my shipment of the Atheros Super-G 108Mbps minipci card so that I can swap it as I use pure Super-G wireless network at home...

I have the 2915 card running right now. No issues as far as I can tell...

My Intell 2200 works wonderfully, detects my friends network that his Atheros Super G wont. Yay me.

I don't like any sticker on the notebook. So I order a Dell 1350. But instead of "Centrino" sticker, Dell put a "Pentium M" sticker on it. However, I found out that the signal is better on my i9300 than i8600 with Intel 2200BG. But i9300 has antennas on the back of LCD. Don't know i8600 has an antenna or not.

I have the Intel 2200 and it works very well. It picks up networks all over the place and some quite far away.

Is there any differences in the ranges of these cards? I could use a long range puppy at work to tie into a local wireless network at a nearby coffee shop.

no, and if there were, it would not be on a scale that would make any difference.

Thanks. I stop there for coffee every morning, and my office is close enough to surf during lunch.

Intel all the way, there's a reason Intel is higher than Dell

Yeah...and it's called Intel Centrino hype.

Dell TrueMobile = Broadcom, which is who I prefer to drive the wireless in my notebook.

Stickers? Ugh, they come off the second the notebook comes out of the box.

Use NetStumbler if you want to find out the stregth of the cards.
