Loosing 400$ on the CC refund because of exchange made me change my mind. More then the fact AW is slow. Slow has it's merits if you want things done right.

sorry bro, that sux that you got sucked into that loop. Do you have alink to where you designed the custom laptop you just built? specs?

Sorry for the confusion. As much as I want a laptop I have given up on it. I walked into www.canadacomputers.com as they are just around the corner from here and asked for the best guy that knows lots about gaming hardware and SLI based systems. I told the guy that he had free range to build the ultimate gaming system. Of course no more then 5,300$ which is what my Area-51 would have cost me. So he was like a kid in a candy store, real nice guy and extremely excited to put together this bad boy It's an SLI based system and it will really screams . The only thing I don't have in it yet is the Water Cooled Kit but that will be forthcoming. I will post some BenchMarks when I get it. It should be interesting. I've never really had a machine that fast.

Should be done in about 7 days as they need to order a few parts. Then I'll give the technician a day to play and tweak it up a bit. I'll go hang out at the store and see what my new toy can do This guy is apparently a heavy O/Cer so he should be ok to set things up just right.

Cheers

linuxrc,
Can you post pictures? It sounds very exciting. I am considering an Alienware. Actually, I think I have already decided on it. My other option was to build it myself. The photo gallery here was very helpful. The "Darth Beavis" system is amazing.

This truly sucks, i ordered mine and im making my first payment on it this week and the damn thing goes on sale...Im mad!

Prodigy

Yeah that does suck but be comforted that in the end you only get 90$ off from the so called 500$ rebate. It is a nice gesture from AW but as someone mentioned it was just a marketing trick.

As for my new system. I'll post some benchmarks and the specs of the system that I built for anyone that is interested. I won't over clock the system just yet as I won't have my liquid cooling kit for a few weeks. But I'm sure the benchmarks will be quite acceptable

Cheers

None of you know this is a "marketing trick", nor do you know your butt from a hole in the ground if you assume hardware prices always drop.

Alienware prices vary over time based on a lot of different factors. I've seen prices go up on occasion, but more often than not, they usually drop. Alienware has always updated pricing regularly to reflect the prices of hardware and their manufacturing costs as they change.

Bottom line is that with the rebate right now with the new pricing schedule, you can save more now with the rebate, than before. Shop until you find what you want, then look at the bottom line and compare. All that matters is what you're out of pocket, right?

All this ridiculous bickering about pricing and rebates reminds me of the Dell crowd. At least with Alienware you end up with a decent machine...

Havn't you guys learned he is exempt. He is the only one allowed to do this. Don't question his authority.

No pictures yet or review. I got the machine yesterday and still working out some minor things.

1. The thing is noisy because of #2
2. The thing is quite hot with an FX-55 and two BFG Nvidia 6800 OC ULTRA video cards.
3. RAM hasn't been tweaked and timed properly yet so system isn't running as stable as it should and as fast. For now BIOS is reset to default factory settings. Tuesday me and a o/c guru will tweak it and maybe O/C with some more cooling added to the machine.

For now benchmarks on 3dmark are at 21763 I have hit a bit higher, closer to 21800 but most benchmarks are around there. I would expect to hit a few points higher and hopefully get some decent performance out of this guy.

Pretty happy with this setup so far. I know it's not a laptop but, it's what I ended up getting with the money I was going to use for an Area51-m 7700.

cheers

Interesting thought...go back and read his posts, he has helped many many people with issues in this forum so to say a guy who has owned 4 or 5 AW rigs and is willing to bend over backward to help anyone in need is a "noob" seems a bit misplaced in their eval..if you did not like his remark, which made sence, then just don't read it...at least he owns an AW, has years of experience with them, and is willing to help anyone in need who is asking...noob..no way...hell of a good guy, yah
