Ok I had it for 20 min on no encryption at all.
Mephis hangs. Every time I try to change something in the Wireless it hangs. (Still LIVECD, haven't installed it yet) Disappointing
@DimGR The last drrivers and instructions you had given me worked for Ubuntu. But then again I didn't know how to enter the WPA key. After I have deinstalled UBUNTU, I figured this out.
just edit /etc/network/interfaces to look something like this
iface eth0 inet dhcp
then do sudo modprobe ipw2200 ; ifup eth0
The wireless key has to be in Hexadecimal and not like windows in String. Damn it. I need now a String to Hexadecimal tool and maybe a visit to Rome to visit the Pope until the wireless works...
BTW I have now tried so many Linux distributions. Ok haven't installed Mepis yet, only Live cd, maybe it won't freeze if its installed. But again the installation route is confusing. SUSE, Mandrake and co had a auto-partition. I just could click on the empty space and let them decide how big SWAP and Root shall be.
If I try to set a root partition for Mepis (reiserfs), it creates a reiser partition, but then again the same amount of space remains free. Like a shadow partition or double effect. Could be a bug. But I am afraid, it could destroy my Windows Partition with all the data, I haven't backuped.
Well, still looking for THE linux distribution for me.
So far SUSE was the most convenient. If just the damn wireless would have worked there.
