2405fpw and the 2005fpw Widescreen LCD (56k beware) - Page 3

I've heard both Samsung and Benq, but I don't know how to verify without taking the thing apart. BTW, no sparkles whatsoever. The 2405FPW is my favorite Dell monitor by far. If you've seen the 1905FP, the image quality is similar on the 2405FPW, but without the ghosting of the 1905FP, and of course, much higher rez. Very clear. Very bright. Even lighting. Good colors. Nice features. You know -- it's an OK monitor

Hmmm...how does it compare to the Sony 23-inch monitor?

I looked at a few other large widescreen LCDs at Best Buy before I got the 2405FPW, but I never did a side-by-side. The Sony is glossy, right? If so, that is simply a different experience -- not necessarily better for all things, but different than something like the matte-finished anti-glare 2405FPW. If I were you, I'd just order one, and if it doesn't blow your socks off, return it. I think they're selling for $999 now on the small business site.

How's Dell's return policy on LCDs?

($999 still seems high...I thought you could get this for $800?)

EDIT: I just realized, if you buy this with an XPS (desktop), which is currently at 34% off, it will come to $726! The offer says it does not include electronics and accessories, but apparently the LCDs are also at 34% off if bought with the system. Hmmm.....

Same as other stuff, I think. 21 days for any reason.

no restocking fee? how about return shipping? thanks...

I'm tempted to buy it with an XPS Gen 4 now, because with 34% off the price of the entire system is way below the internet prices of the components added together.

Is this your first Dell, Delta? No restocking fee, and you can usually talk them into paying for return shipping as well. In fact, there are multiple threads in the Dell section dedicated to getting all sorts of discounts and freebies by playing the "Dell Game." Welcome to The Game!

I bought a Dell nearly 5 years ago, if that counts. Hmmm...the Dell Game...

Hmm...this procedure seems to be able to tell you the panel manufacturer of a Dell LCD (or at least for the 1905)...maybe it'll work on the 2405fpw too?

Yup, got it to work. Monitor identifies itself as Samsung LTM240M1 - L01 v 1.3.

Thanks.
That panel is supposed to have an 8ms response time, but dell advertises 12-16ms. How interesting...maybe this is the "Overdrive" feature they were talking about...

Hey guys, I am having problems with the SD card on the side panel of the monitor. I insert an SD card into the monitor and the computer is not reading it. I installed the latest drivers and tried out the usb on the side and it works fine. Anyone know how to fix this? Please reply here: http://notebookforums.com/showthread...129#post835129

Hey OP,

I like your keyboard. Could you post some pics of it? BTW, great setup

To the owners of the 2405fpw, I wonder if you can do a favor for me. Dell's specs say the minimum height of the monitor, with the stand fully compressed, is 21.5inches. But that means the stand is a full 7.5 inches below the screen, more than 1/2 the height of the screen itself. That doesn't sound or look right to me, so I wonder if Dell made a mistake there and measured the fully-extended height of the monitor in landscape mode. Could you measure the height of the 2405fpw when fully compressed in landscape mode? It will either be 21.5 inches or 17.6 inches, I think.

It's 17.6 if you haven't got an answer yet. heh
