Internal wireless different between graphic cards?

I just received this email today concerning my order:

I am sorry to inform you that we cannot integrate the ATI video card with wireless connectivity because the miniPCI card, which is needed for integrated wireless connectivity, is not available at this moment. I suggest that you please contact Alienware at your earliest convenience, so we can process an order change to speed up your order.

Therefore, we will need for you to choose one of the following alternatives:

1- Replace the miniPCI with an external wireless card (PCMCIA)
2- Have it removed until the part is available.
3- Have it switched from ATI to a NVIDIA video card.

If you would like to approve the order change by email, just reply to this email.

If you choose any of the above options, I will be able to rush this order and have it ready for you in no more than 6 business days.

PS: Video card NVIDIA DDR3 is back order until the 17th of March.

Ok, I dont get it. Is there a different wireless card depending on the type of graphics card you choose? Crazy thing is that they told me that my order would be shipped between yesterday and today. Now they tell me that i have to choose an NVIDIA card over the ATI which is backordered until 17 March. Anyways, maybe im reading this wrong and am not understanding this issue.

It doesnt sound like the video card is what is on backorder, its sounds like the minipci card needed is whats on backorder, along with the nvidia graphics card. Basically, you either have to wait for the intenal wireless card need to go along with your ATI video card or to make things easier, I would just scrap the internal wireless all together and go with the external card. You will get better signal strength with an external card anyway.

Got the same exact E-mail today (verbatim). Scrapping the internal card and buying an external card, but not from AW.

I would not have minded getting an external wireless card if it werent for the fact that there is only one PCMCIA slot. I purchased the Audigy 2 to fill that gap, and the internal wireless card was more for the convenience of having one. Oh well, ive waited a month already, If the option to wait for them to get more wireless cards in stock, so be it. I'd rather not settle for something I prefer not to have if im dumping over 4k into this system.

Why don't you ask if they can sent it to you now without wireless, then send you the card when it arrives and you'll fit it yourself?

That sounds like a good temp solution and then when the wireless cards become available, they can send it to you and you install it...you get your PC now and be able to use it, install all your software..games or whatever while waiting for the wireless card unless you do not feel comfortable with installing that card yourself..I have never done something like that myself so I could understand if you wanted to wait but it is a good chance to get your rig all set up etc while your waiting for that card

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

I'm really pissed off about this miniPci card thing and the ati model. seriously, why did they go through all of those phases testing parts for compatibility in the first place if they aren't? The sh¡tty thing is that I had to wait a week+ because the miniPci card wasn't in stock and they had to get more, and now I'm not even going to be getting it because I just want my frickin laptop and went for the external wireless card. This is a bunch of crap. I wonder how much longer it would have been for my laptop if i went for the nvidia card, which was the option in the email that they sent me. BULL. And i got the bill today, but when they sent the email, i went to the site and they had this instant rebate crap for the 7700. I talked to the guy who switched my wireless card and he told me that I would get approx. 150 dollars off total (this rebate + 50 some off of a decreased cost of another part) The bill only accounts for the 50 dollars i called about like 1 week ago. Will they update the credit card statement the next billing month or whatever? Does this mean i should pay 90 dollars less than the statements and then the next month i will have 90 credit and the balance will have been paid? So many questions, is there someone with the answers?

Interal Wireless & ATi

I got the same message today, this sucks!!!

It seems from the email that AW uses different wireless cards for ATI and Nvidia.

I guess the choice now is:

1 - Replace the ATI with the Nvidia, wait until the Nvidia becomes
available on 3/17 and retain the wireless card.

2 - Scarp the wireless card now and go with an external.

3 - Get the ATI now and wait until the wireless card becomes available.

I know there have been alot of treads already between the Nvidia and ATi, after reading some of them it seemed that the ATI was a bit faster.

I really don't know what to do as I preferred to have the internal wireless and the ATI card, a matter of preference.

I really don't trust AW when they say when the part becomes available. That could mean months if at all it ever comes out. I get the weird feeling that they are having integration issues on it, call me paranoid.

Any suggestions? Can anyome say anthing positive about the Nvidia?

Found out what the issue is between the graphic cards and the internal wireless. Apparently the internal wireless card is having compatability issues with the x800 graphics cards. So that is why there is the option to get the Nvidia card instead of the ATI. They also said that they are working on replacing or fixing the compatability issue but they have no answers at the moment.
