Is there anyway to use the 8890 to do video editing when the input is composite not svideo. I guesse I am asking is there a way to convert composite video to svideo via a dongle or thingagigy?

Well, yes, there is an S-Video -> composite adapter... I believe it is quite expensive too. You might just be better off using the coaxial in for the antenna. Most devices have at least the coaxial out...
Try www.svideotorca.com. I believe the RCA to S-video dongle is about $25.00. NB: Since you are inputting video from RCA to your S-video in port, you need the RCA to S-video dongle. Click on the S-video to RCA tab on the left of the home page, then scroll down to look at the application links.
