DVD Burning issues - Please help

Hello-
I just bought the Sony FS550 and am trying to burn a DVD on this machine for the first time. I have been very unsuccessful with this. I am trying to backup a dvd I have by using DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink. I have tried using DVD Decrypter, Alcohol 120, and Nero Express for burning the image or files to a DVD. It seems to get about 80% of the way and then spits out an error. Anyone know if this is a user error or setting specific? Thanks for any input. Has anyone successfully done this? If so, how did you do it? BTW... I believe my blank discs are DVD-R.

Thanks.

Problems like this start with the media. I know that Verbatim +R/-R work well. Cheap media is usually the problem. When burning, do nothing with the computer. Reduce burn speed when having problems. Nero is pretty good at detecting media quality.

Thanks for the reply... I actually ended up returning the machine for a P4 toshiba... Centrino was just a bit too slow for me and the battery life was poor. New machine burns DVD's with no issues at all. I am using the same software and media.
