To part out, or not to part out, that is the burning question...

So i have a sony vaio that i've recently repaired, and it's running all smooth...my problem now, I am still going to be purchasing a new notebook, however delayed it might be, so i will need to get top dollar for it.
Would a Sony Vaio PCG-FX210
800mhz AMD athlon
386 mb RAM
some video memory (not the best, but it's a good lappy)

that's the basic jist of it.

I suppose the more general would be a sufficient answer too.
Does it pull in more money to part out an older laptop (3+ yrs) or to try and sell it whole?

I'd guess you could get between $300-$500 for the whole unit. Try asking people in the buy/sell section of the forums what they would pay for it.

i would sell ASAP since computers loose their value quickly, i would not part it out though you would get even less, try listing it locally because people hate paying shipping.

300-500 on ebay sounds about right. I can't see getting that much from the people who happen to be looking for parts for this particular machine.

I considered that, but didn't want to because I figured it wouldn't be the proper place for it (since i'm not currently selling it).

I've considered that it loses value quickly, but since I'm not yet comfortable with my financial situation, I don't just yet want to order a new notebook to replace this one.
I figure this will do all I need (i'm looking at a 700m, so the gaming wouldn't be much better anyway), so i'm just gonna use this til the summer.

I guess at that point I might just sell it to a friend for a low price.

Thanks for the input from all of you though
