dv1000 or v2000

Im going to buy either a dv2000 or v2000 but i don't know which one I will like better. They both look really nice, which one is less likely to get scratches. If i get the v2000 i don't want the paint scratching off the inside, if i get the dv1000 i don't want the lid getting all scratched up. I will be using this for listening to music, movies, internet... Which one has better speakers. I heard the dv1000 has no bass, but the v2000 does. That’s very important for me, more important then the dv1000 having a remote and media features. I heard the screen on the v2000 is great but lacks picture quality. The dv1000 on the other hand has better quality but a glare. A big issue is the noise, which one is more quiet. I heard the dv1000 has a noisy hard drive, im going to get the 80GB 54000, does that have the same issue?

The thing that is going to decide which one i get is, which one has bass, which one is more quiet, which screen is more preferred, and which one is less prone to scratches

Right now im leaning more towards the v2000 because i heard it has bass, it doesn't have a noise problem, the screen doesn't have a glare.

But there are things about the dv1000 i really like, i like that it has ir and a remote. I like the black exterior and media features and buttons

If the dv1000 does have bass or neither of them do, if the hard drive im getting doesn't have a noise problem and the if the screen problem isn't really that bad then im getting a one.

Please answer my questions and also tell me which one you like the best

V2000

I have Compaq V2000 and was in the same situation when I was deciding to buy one.
I bought the compaq since I really did not have any use for the remote or the the quick play feature which the dv1000 has.

The screen and speakers are very closely matched between the 2. So, since different people have different views on it, I would suggest that you visit your local electronics store and see which one suits you better.

The fan never turns on when doing mild work like surfing the internet, but does turn on just for a few seconds when put to heavy use - viewing lot of photos and other graphics intensive work..

The hard disk noise is negligible if you are going to buy the faster 5400rpm hard drives. Yes it does make a crunchy noise but at least for me its not a big problem.

Both of them are pretty decent value priced laptops..Its a choice between two differently styled laptops. I like the V2000 over the dv1000. The chances of getting scratches on the exterior are higher than getting one interior. So thats also one advantage of the V2000.

Hope that helped

I think i might get the v2000. I think it looks better. But i don't know. I might want the cool media features of the dv1000. So i think i will wait a while until i make my decision. I guess either one is fine for me, its just choosing the one i will think is best. Do I want the cool features of the dv1000 or the really nice style of the v2000? Its still hard to decide.

As for the hard drive noise, if i get the dv1000 and it has that problem i will not be too happy with it. Since the v2000 hasn't been any problems, im leaning more towards that

Oh yes! buy the one which suits you better...
If you buy from hp.com you can return the product within 30 days if you do not like it. They do not have any restocking fees but do not refund your shipping charges..but this would not be a problem if you get free shipping.

I had the same dilemma regarding the two different models but in the end went for the dv1000 model because I loved the cool black looking interior and it is the black I would look at all the time when I am working for hours at a time. I don't expect the exterior (or more specifically the top) to get scratched too much as I always store the units in a neopropene padded close fitted sleeve for transport which is little bigger than the machine and very protective.

Regarding hard drive noise it seems to be down to which hard drive you have inside the machine.

I'm currently conducting a little survery to try and find out what make and model of hard drive different owners of HP DV1000 series models (including HP DV11xx models) have in their machines. So on that basis I can recommend against the 60GB drives because both the 4200rpm Toshiba MK6025GAS drive that I have and the 5400rpm version of that drive which an owner at www.dv1000forums.com has are noisy. But an owner who has the 80GB 5400 rpm Toshiba drive reports it is almost totally silent. This is typical of how hard drive manufacturers seem to work. The new brash design team puts right their reckless mistakes when the next larger and newer hard drive in the range is launched. So I reckon if you get the DV1000 model with a 745 Centrino 1.8 processor and 80GB drive you will not be disappointed.

The brightview screen by the way is really fantastic and the sound quality from the speakers excellent. The best I have ever had from any notebook PC.

I’m afraid if i get a dv1000 it will have the noise problems. I like the shape of the v2000 better. The dv1000 is kinda shaped odd and i don't really like the lid too much. The v2000 is very nice looking and doesn't have any noise problems and suppose to have extremely good speakers for a laptop, i heard the sound gets a little distorted and cracks when the volume is all the way up on the dv1000. So im gonna go with the one that sounds like i shouldn't have any problems with. Though i do like the media buttons and the remote on the dv1000, and i do like the black. Im gonna give it some more time, i'll make a decision in a week

Which neoprene close fitted sleeve did you get. I am looking for one for my DV1010US.

Thanks.
