Changing Processors

Is there any way to put a Pentium M processor in my Dell Inspiron 6000 in place of the Celeron M processor it currently has? Are the chipsets the same?

It will depend on what chipset you already have in the i6000. I am assuming that it's a Intel 915GM with onboard video, and in that case the answer would be a yes. However, you will have to make sure that you have adequaet cooling for the new Pentium M chip.

Yes, they're the same. I may have a 2.0 for sale shortly.

Yah, mobo isn't any different. Atleast it shouldn't be. Just pop it in. Might have to reconfig bios but no biggy.

man somtimes processors are too expensive. i'm not trying to rain on your sale here but i can't remember the last time i spent over a 70 dollars on a processor. but those were the good old AMD ahtlon xp thoroughbred days.
I've bought a few magical $56 xp1700+(1.45ghz) that was overclocking to 2500mhz out of the box with air cooling(thermalright slk-800). thats more than 1000mhz overclock with 230 front side bus with upped multiplier. ahh those were the days.

i'll bet that my old athlon setup coupled with a high end graphics card can still beat the shi-t out of many of today's high end desktops. 400 dollar 2.0ghz centrino chip? most certainly.

No problem, the Pentium M 2.0 533 mhz is the second fastest Pentium M available, so it costs a premium. And my price is well below what you can find it for anywhere. I will have no problem selling it when I'm ready. Some people are more cost conscious, like you, and others are performance conscious.
