I have a laptop connects to the router using wirelss, and the desktop connects to the router using a cable. Would it be possible to network them together? If yes, how can I do that?

thx

LOL, with that setup the ARE networked together. Assuming you're using some kind of Windows, just create a share on the one you want to connect to, and then in the Run window from the Start button type in:
\\[computer name]\[share name] and click OK

Where [computer name] is the name of the computer you're connecting to, and [share name] is the name of the share you created.

as above you already have a network. if windows xp, just go through internet connection wizzard on each

if you want to share files between each, then you have to enable sharing. do a search and there are tons of websites on how to do this.

What does the wizard do exatly? I always like to set things manually so I know what's going on.

that is the big question, no one knows for sure..basically, it just sets up TCP/IP to windows default and gets DHCP from your router, lets you assign a netowrk name and your computer name on the network. you still have to manually adjust sharing

i setup through the wizard...the network group is found as "Mshome", however when i click on "Mshome", it says i have permission to access. What is wrong?

you need to be logged on as "administrator" in order to adjust properties.

Actually, they might not be so networked together. Even if you wire the wireless gateway to the cabled router, the wireless will act like a gateway and while something will work, other things will be more difficult. The best soln (what I do) is (if you have the feature) to turn off dhcp on the wireless, and give it a static IP on the cabled router. Properly configured, the wireless clients will now be using the wireless "gateway" just as an access point and will get their dhcp from the cabled router. Thus one network space, the wirless device acting as simple bridge. I use the Linksys WRT54G on the wireless side and I have a DLink-707P for the cabled side.

He's probably got a wireless router, not a wireless gateway and a router as 2 separate devices, so he's already got that covered.

Why do you use 2 different devices for this? Did you need more ports than the average wireless router provides? You could have just used a switch or hub an addition to the wireless router.

Turn on laptop, login as admin. Turn on computer, login as admin. I'm assuming your using xp on both. Put them both in the same network (eg: mshome or workgroup, which ever is your default is fine long as they are both the same). Go to your network neightborhoods and browse the mshome or workgroup network. It will list the computer, and the shared folders/printers.
