Thread Starter
Here's where we compile all available information on video chipsets that are out... (all scores are for 3dmark 05)

ATi x300 = 995 (lelliot731, i6000), 1002 (jd2b)
ATi Mobility 9600 Turbo = 1066 (my 8600 here, fairly untweaked, not even latest drivers)
ATi Mobility 9700 64 meg = 1131 (ComputerGeek737, Inspiron 9100)
ATi Mobility 9700 128 meg = 1231 (Dellbert, Inspiron 9200)
ATi Mobility 9800 256 meg = 3344 (spudsdude, Inspiron 9100)
ATi x600 = 1295 (me again, Inspiron D810)
ATi x700 = 2282 (MrMsyvc, Acer 8104)
ATi x800 = 3802 (jed591, http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1239-x-x-x), 4800+ (Spires, Sager 9860, oc'd heavily)

nvidia 6200TC = 830 (bruin, Sony Vaio, FS500), 915 (bruin, oc'd)
nvidia 6600 = 2376 ( http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1485-x-x-x )
nvidia Quadro 1400 = 3128 (bluemonkey oc'd), 2580 (cjcox, stock), precision m70, 2426 (me again, totally stock, literally just took it out of the box)
nvidia 6800 = 4209 (Shinji U, inspiron 9300), 4431 (maxbelgium), 3246 (stock, michaelx30)
nvidia 6800 Ultra = 5233 (tom's hardware), 4899 (pcmag)

How many frames per second is the x300 ?
I would think the geforce go 6800/ultra would have a framerate of around 40-60 fps on 3dmark05. Right ?

And the x300 would have a framerate around 1-20 fps.

fps?

Great thread!

Q. How do you guys find out the fps for games on your laptop?

Do you have to buy the pro version of 3dmark, or what?

When you run the free test. It shows the fps on the bottom of the screen. All the 3dmark tests show it.

fraps

yea, but I cant get it (3dmark05 free version) to run in the background with my games to test their frame rate for different settings. It just defaults to their own game demos. Am I doing something wrong?

I used fraps to get a feel for what I could push the card too with the doom3 demo download. I would like to try to overclock the x600 to see if the gain is worth it. Thats what i'll be doing next, once I get a full game to muck around with

When you run 3dmark. You don't use it when your playing games. Only 3dmark is running. And your firewall, etc.

With my new Vaio-A690 and the ATI Mobility Radeon X600(128MB DDR SDRAM),

1244 right out of the box with no tuning or tweaking.

Thanks,

I am thinking about getting the HP ZD8000 3.4 630 processor with 2 Gigs of Ram and the ATI X600 256 Card. It probable won't break 5000 on the 3dMark scores, but does anyone think the 2 gigs of ram will improve its 1295 scores.

I want to be able to play Doom3 on the highest setting at respectable frame rates

Thanks

Also, I vote to have this as a sticky

Don't count on it. I had the Compaq 6000 with the x600 and 3.2 processor. Doom 3 got about 25fps 800x600 on medium settings. I sent it back. My 9300 should be here TODAY!

Bummer, if only HP at at least a x800, it might have been a contender.
don't buy HP ZD8000 series its loud and heavy and worst battery life in the league...screen is sweet ass though minus the glare.

I already bought it and returned it.

9300 on order

I didn't realise the X700 was below the 9800. That's interesting.
