Hypersonic (Sonic Boom) Reformatting

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
All right I have tons and tons of spyware, trojans and viruses on my pc... I've tried everything to get them off but they multiply like damn bacteria. Anyway, I've decided to reformat my pc. I am wondering if I should reformat it with the classic "format c:" or should I use the Recovery DVD that I got from Hypersonic? And also is it necessary to debug? Thanks a bunch guys.

The restore DVD will return you to brand new state. That's fine if you the immediately go to Windows Update. It also means you are reloading all the stuff you may not want (AOL, MS Works...whatever). If you format your drive, you will need a licensed full install version of Windows and all the drivers peculiar to your machine. I'd use the restore personally, a lot less hassle. Then install a GOOD firewall and AV program.

One thing I do - which won't help you out this time, but maybe for the next time - is once you install the system to your liking (and within the size of a DVD disc), rip your image using Ghost or True Image. This way, you have an updated recovery DVD for the future - as opposed to the older one from Hypersonic.

But as olyteddy stated (wow this thread is old) it will put your system back to the way it was when you got it originally.

Good luck and show some pics of the boom.

True image is another piece of software that is similar in nature - but does everything inside Windows, as opposed to the DOS mode of Ghost. Maybe this is something to look at.

I am getting ready to evaluate this before purchasing it ($50). If it does what I want, I can schedule incremental backup images of all the systems in my house and tell it where to store the image. My goal is to have a digital image of the drive on a backup drive. If something happens, I simply recover the image.

True, until your backup HD fails That actually happened to me, now I back up to a old computer on my network I put together with spare parts and two new drives set to raid mirroring for extra help and redundency against failures like that.

YEah. Right now, anything copied to the storage area is copied to an external HD as well. However, this is going to get expensive. So I have been thinking about doing is like a RAID 1+5 or 5+1 where I stripe and mirror the drives. Not quite sure what I am going to do just yet though.

But yeah, I learned a while ago to have two backup images. Makes a big difference during failures.

Yes it does Stripe with mirroring would be nice. Good between performance and redundency. If I had the room in my desktop I would try to set that up all inside hehe
