S360 Reliability - Page 2

ok the only think i don't like about this machine is the keyboard, and only a little bit. The keys are not sensitive enough for me... pretty minor gripe but having typed on powerbooks for 2.5 years.. it affects me.. so i am learning to adjust.. so far.. knock on wood... no other issues.

Hi, there,

I am new here, and I just my S360 an hour ago. Being aware that Sony doesn't give recovery disc to constomers, I am gonna ask a dumb question: how could I create my own recovery disc. I learned from somewhere that I should get 7 disc after the process. I had a Compaq and a Dell, but was never required to create recovery disc, so I don't know how. I did a bit search in the forum, but didn't find the instruction (I guess it is too easy!?).

Also, the fan is louder than my Dell. Should I go to Power Management and do something there? I apologize, in advance, for not doing a thorough search on these issues. Just so eager to get started. Really appreciate your time.

Hi HBS,

1. The fan is loud. Not much you can do. If it needs air, you should let it spin up.

2. My S360 was constantly popping up a box telling me to insert a blank CD to make the backup discs...seems to be something hardwired to the OS from the factory...try popping a blank into the optical drive.

Welcome to the forums!

Hi, Craig,

Thanks for your quick response. Warm air keeps coming out of the air vent on the right, but the case keeps pretty cool (compared with Dell I8600). Guess I just have to get used to the fan.

So far, my experience with S360 has been great. The LCD is excellent, and it's fast (1GB RAM). Weird though, no windows popping out to ask me to back up the system. I have blank CDs ready, just have to figure out how to make the recovery disc.

Here is a quick question for S360's battery. My S360 has been on AC power for 5.5 hours, and the Power Meter shows that the total battery power is 100% and the status is "charging." It has been doing that (charging a 100% battery) for almost 1.5 hours. My question is why it keeps charging the batter after it reaches 100%?

HBS-

1) Welcome to Notebook forums!

2) Congrats on purchasing an S360! Good to see that you like it.

3) Your battery will always say charging when it's plugged in. The only information that's important is the % full status.

4) To make recovery CD's, go to Control Panel. You should see some option there for recovery, or something like that.

Your fan is loud? That seems odd. I just bought my 360 Monday and I have not noticed the fan AT ALL. Granted, it has been on Ultimate Battery almost all the time, and I've just been surfing and watching DVDs mostly. yes, the upper right edge does get pretty hot. But I find the fan thing weird....
