7426GX New Gateway Out end of MARCH! Replaces 7422gx

post #1 of 153
Thread Starter
Okay boys and girls, its that time of the year again and the gateway is coming about with a replacement for the 7422gx, its the 7426gx

Now not many specs are listed on the best buy computers yet, nor a sku. But it is in the system, so that usually tells us that its a sure thing.

AMD 64BIT - No speed said yet
100GIG HD
No vid card stated
1 Gig of RAM
and a DVD burner

Now I know this doesnt say alot about it, but if your thinking of picking up a 7422 Hold off because the new beast will be here.

P.S. Starting price is still $1549

Hmmm, unless they are moving to DTR 3700+, that is a large price gap for just a 20GB bigger HD. Maybe a little beefier GPU? Loking forward to seeing more specs as they become available. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmm... CyberScholar hasn't been updated yet. We won't get information at work for another little bit also.

Being though that it is called 7426GX, it's the same W730-K8 that's already been used, just a larger hard drive upgraded upon the 7422GX. No new motherboards/cases.

Note Arima doesn't list 9700's available for the W730-K8 so it's got to be the 9600 again. And probably the same 64MB of RAM on it as always, doubt they'd change that. So yeah the only feasable thing to account for the bigger hard drive is a faster processor, unless maybe they stocked something faster than a 4200RPM drive (which I doubt)
post #4 of 153
When did Arima change that? They used to list the w730-k8 as having a 9600/9700 32/64/128MB?
post #5 of 153
It must have changed sometime in December or January. I think when they added the M/w622 and the W730-K8X. I just noticed it one day when I was looking at it.

It still says 32/64/128, but no 9700 option.

I think the new Newark cores of MA64 will be out, which may be in these machines. It's going to be somewhere between the power consumption of the Turion and the DTR A64. And it may scale up to 3700+ by then.

I guess they may have done it when the M:860 was phased out. I think they were the onlymachines using the 9700 option anyway.

I agree. I don't think I've seen another one either.

Gateway may have switched to the new Arima PCI-E board and decided to keep the A64 notebook line in the 74xx numbering system. *crosses fingers

Uhh.. I think not. They're not going to automagically change the modeling sequence. In fact, I doubt we'd even see a Turion under the 74xx model scheme. They're not going to change boards.

eM:
M21xx=Celeron (No Longer on Arima site)
M25xx=Athlon XP (No Longer on Arima Site)
M51xx=Celeron (No Longer on Arima Site)
M53xx=Athlon XP: W720-K7
M54xx=Sempron (No Longer on Arima site, K8 version of the W720-K7)
M64xx=P4 : W730P4
M68xx=AMD64: W730-K8

GTW:
30xx=Celeron
35xx=P-M
45xx=P-M: M621-UC
72xx=Athlon XP (No Longer on Arima Site)
73xx=P4: W730P4
74xx=AMD64: W730-K8

(I'll put the other ones in as I discover them. as it stands I haven't even seen the M210/3xxx's on the Arima site at all)
post #11 of 153
The PCI-E version isn't a turion, it's still an AMD64 3xxx+ processor. It's possible... All of the specs are still the same, and they did state that they were planning on using some of ATI's more powerful gpus in the future...

I agree that I don't think it will be Turion based under the current model numbering scheme, but existing S754 boards will likely support the Turion. That is one of the things reviewers keep referring to ... the fact it will extend the life of current socket 754 setups.
post #13 of 153
Yes the Turions should be supported, but we'd probably need a BIOS update. And of course we know easy THAT's gonna be to get

The PCI-E ones have the Turion logo on the Arima site, except for the W730-K8X
post #14 of 153
I saw on a recent roadmap that AMD plans to continue the mobile AMD64 in the future "as market requires". The Turion looks like a nice chip and all, but for those who are looking for a DTR notebook with some mobility this is upsetting.

hmmm

do you think 7422GX will go down in price when the 7426 goes world? i would love that cause 3400 is just perfect for me.
post #16 of 153
Could this be the new model???

Same chassis, different MB + better vid card
post #17 of 153
No, they'd change the model number scheme if it was the K8X. This is still the K8
post #18 of 153
will the 7422GX be available after the release of that new one? how was it with the old ones? cause the specs on the 7422GX are just perfect and i don't mind buying it. The new one will be more expensive and i don't want that. I'll be buying 7422 at the end of the month. Any chances i won't get one?
post #19 of 153
It's likely they will discontinue it and keep the new one as the new highend model. They always have to concurrent lines, one better than the other.
post #20 of 153
However, I think your chances of getting what you want is good. When I bought my 6809 traded it in for 11, traded it in for ANOTHER 11 and finally I went back to the 09. (Long story) When I went back to the Niner, they had a few Fives and Sevens in stock (maybe a Jack and Queen too...). It's all based on where you shop and buy, look around, your bound to find it.
