Post it and explain the items which we might not understand what they represent.

Explain any items that we might find interesting or useful!

Here is a quick tutorial how to embed an image directly in a post like I did below:

1. Upload the image to a site you already have access to or you can sign up for a free image hosting account such as here http://www.imageshack.us
2. When creating the post, surround the link to the image between the [img] and [/img] tags or you can click on the
icon on top when creating a post and insert the link in the box

Here is mine

From left to right:
4: UltraVNC: free remote desktop control
5: WordWeb: free offline dictionary
6: MultiRes: quickly switches resolutions
7: Gmail Notifier
9: Vypress Chat: for chatting on a LAN
12: FanGUI: top shows cpu temp and bottom shows HD temp
13: FanGUI: shows fan speed
14: SpeedSwitchXP Icon: shows power scheme
15: SpeedSwitchXP: top shows CPU Speed, bottom shows CPU load
16: SpeedSwitchXP: Battery Status
17: NoFlash: stops multimedia in IE
21: Deamon Tools: virtual optical drive
22: Omega Drivers: quick access to graphics settings

I should have mentioned why I have so many so I wouldn't start getting responses like this.

I find that I only have a couple of windows open (3 at most) when working and thus don't need the taskbar space. Second, everyone of those icons serves a purpose and use each one frequently. Third, they do not use up much of my memory.

I have a confession to make. I just counted mine and I came up with 22, just like you. However that Java one is not usually there. I wish I could switch that "Monday" display to show the date. I always know what day it is (well, usually anyway) but sometimes I don't know what the date is.

Java,Outlook,Yeha,VPN,Wireless,Wired,SpyBot,HotKeyboard,Palm,Sound,PdaNet,
Powa,Bluetooth,SqealerServer,ATI,GiggleMail,SpeedSwatch,Wireless (part II, The Revenge),AntiVirus,TouchPad (don't need that one),CachManXP (not sure if this is doing anything)

I keep my task bar double height, because unlike you, I keep a lot of windows open at once. I currently have 22 windows open and that's normal. I'm currently working on some integration projects, so I have 2 IDEs open, plus about 5 reference documents and of course a couple of Notebookforums.com windows, and several explorer windows, the usual stuff, Outlook, things like that.

for people with a bunch of open windows...google on microsoft powertoys and download the virtual desktop manager. I have 4 desktops (email, tracking tools, dev environments/db servers, other)

Yeah - thats great - so useful when your doing lots of stuff.

As you can see my tray is kind of empty. I don't really like having loads of crap there.

Interesting ideas.... I only [usually] have four icons or so: AIM, firewall, FanGUI, and antivirus.

I gave virtual desktop manager a try a while ago but it's just not for me. I don't multitask much. Plus those 4 (only 4) extra buttons take up even more space on my taskbar. I also have a google deskbar integrated into the taskbar. Oh, with the desktop manager showing the 4 desktops like that, you can't actually work in them, right? You have to extend one?

Looks like we have a few programmers in here. What are you guys programming? I design and code simulations (usually of fluid) in Java.

I usually just have 3 windows open: 1 is the IDE, 2nd is an API Documentation, and third a browser window.

You can - all you need is TClockEx v1.4.2 (freeware!) Very good little app, and I use it all the time. Do a google search to find it.

Do you feel that Thunderbird is better than Outlook? I still do my mail-checking on the net... but may be looking to bring it to my desktop.

I dunno really... I don't use e-mail all that much, and I had been using outlook before only because I had a Pocket PC. The spam filtering is done very well though. There's also the whole geek status thing too.

In general I'm not paying for software which I think should be free or exists for a reason that should not be. This includes software that takes care of administrative issues such as virus protection.
