9300 Graphic Card Question

If I cant afford to upgrade to the Geforce 6800 card, what advantage is there to purchasing the 9300 vs the i6000D? The larger screen and that's it??? I play some games, but not HL2 or any super graphic intensive ones

Run away, Run away!!!! (You've been warned)

Do not visit these forums (leave and do not return)! It's a frenzy of upgrades and returns. You will NEVER be satisfied (NEVER!). Having said that ...

Get what you can afford. But what happens is this: You start adding the different features to your 6000 and start to realize the 9300 (in my case the 9200) is just a little more ... and so it begins. Agonizing, wondering, changing orders, returning laptops, getting another laptop, getting multiple laptops, selling your children so you can buy MORE laptops, then, turning your basement into a small grow operation so you can buy even MORE laptops ... See what happens?

Run away, run away! You've been warned!

I think Col. Wild summed it up accurately.
Yeah, screen is the main difference.
Honestly though their is only three main differences: the video option to have the Geforce, the 17 inches, and the "truelife" glossy screen.

I want to be able to play DVDs, surf and play some games on the machine. My problem is that my budget is limited to around 1200-1300 max.
if the 9300 user's are ever able to upgrade there card above the 6800go then I am sure you will be able to buy one easily from one of the upgraders also probaly pretty cheaply.

OK, I am gonna play devils advocate here. tmbstone, with a budget of $1300 max, you can still get a I9300 with the better LCD and the Nvidia 6800 Go. Here is a machine I speced out for you that came to $2007 before the 750 off coupon, which brings it down to 1257 before tax. Tax might bring it a little over $1300 but not much, unless you are as lucky as I am and live in a state where Dell Home doesn't charge tax. Dell Home does not charge any tax unless they have a Dell shop in that state. You can twiddle with the specs little bit, but make sure it is hovering a little above $1999 before discount.

Or to sum it up simply, you can afford the 17 WUXGA Truelife display and the Nvidia 6800 Go. Just look at the post above!

And if Dell does not charge any tax in your state, then you can evne think about backing the HD down to 40GB and adding the DVD write. After discount, that should bring you to exactely $1300, and give you a very respectable system even with a 1.6GHz processor for your money! Plus, the CPU is upgradable in the future. OK, thats all I gotta say....sorry for blabbing so much. Oh yeah....in any case, make sure you place your dell order before the endo f the 15th if you want the discounts for either the 6000 or 9300.
uhhh, additional benefits of 9300 over 6000 that was not mentioned are 6 USB ports vs. 4, subwoofer vs none and DVI vs analog only!!!
Who here honestly needs 6 USB ports? I cant only think of 3 possible needs for it.

External Harddrive
Wireless/Wired Mouse
USB Memory Key

Sounds good except Im in TN and Dell has a warehouse here...come to think of it being in TN is starting to suck. Newegg also has a warehouse here so I have to pay sales tx at newegg now as well.

Also, I need to check with my work. They have a payroll decduction program that I was going to get this with but I dont know if I can take advantage of any coupons like the $750 off one or any other Home coupons. Any idea what next promo Dell will be having starting on 16th???

I think the 6000 has 400mhz memory vs. 533 on the 9300. The 7200rpm hard drive is also an option that's available on the 9300 that I didn't see on the 6000. As stated before, 17" vs 15.4" is an upgrade, however both WXGA and WUXGA resolutions are available on both. Whether to consider 'glossy' as an upgrade is left up to the buyer...for my purposes, glossy is a downgrade.

For the USB ports, I already bought a wireless mouse and a wireless numeric keypad/calculator combo so that's two of them gone. Add in a usb flash drive, my palm pilot and my digital camera cable and that's 5 of the 6 gone.

+drawing pad
+tv tuner (if not pcmcia or mini pci)
+webcam (or other cams)
+printer

i think there is a use for all the usb ports =)

also on the 6000 there is a WSXGA option, the middle option between the 2 extremes, WXGA, and WUXGA!
