9300 came today with faulty screen - Page 3

True dellbert. That said it is reasonable for one to expect a good product for 2600 dollars. I think comparing to Sony is not as relevant as not having any noticable defects (like LCD darkening around edges, or light emissions). Personally I find noise to be much more irritating - my old compaq and toshiba were quite noisy - as far as the reviews go Dell isnt like that.

I don't know about you guys but for $3000 I expect a PERFECT product. That xps 2 better damn well be perfect or it's going right back to Dell.

I ordered a 9300 with a WXGA+ screen. Anyone have some knowledge of what it is or how it performs? You all have me a little worried
post #44 of 67
You'll love the WXGA+. It's as good as any WXGA+ I've ever seen. Bright, clear, no artifacts from the anti-glare coating. Unless, of course, you get a bad one like the thread starter.

Cali,
My 9300 with WXGA+ arrives on Wednesday. I sure hope it comes out better then the guy who started this thread. I'm a little concerned now. I'll be comparing it to my 8600 which I always thought had an excellent screen.
I will let everyone know.

Ya, my 9200 has wxga+ and it is fantastic. When you turn it way down on battery, you can still see it really well, when it's plugged in, you almost need to turn it down a notch cause it's very bright. It has very good angles of viewing and works really well in the sunlight. Game and movies are fantastic (very bright and clear). You will be very happy with it.

No you can get replacement with shipping tag in it, you put your current laptop in same box and stick shipping tag on it, then DHL comes to pick it up.

Do NOT hesitate - you have 21 days from your original invoice to get a full refund, and it would be best to make sure you can see your replacement before the end of that period. It is during this 21 day period that any employee will do anything you want. After 21 days of the FIRST LAPTOP's invoice date, you can still get help but you will spend hours on the phone in Dell Hell.

Did you use a coupon? If you send it in for a refund and re-order you can keep extending your 21 days, but you will lose your coupon.

Do you know which WXGA+ panel you have?

i have read on a review that the xps2 has a 'gorgeous' screen.

Given that dell are a huge company who buy parts in bulk it is hard not to agree with dellbert that it is more than likely that dell just 'refurbed' the millions of terrible 9200 screens that just happened to be lying around after the hastily terminated 9200.

I think it extremely unlikely that faced with taking a loss and getting rid of millions of dollars worth of screens or doing a cheap cosmetic job on them -going from anti-glare to all of a sudden truelife glossy come on-they would choose the former

After this info is confirmed a bit more, this really needs to go out to ALL the tech forums and news sources. We need to let Dell know that this is unacceptable.

Uh doesn't Dell only stock up to 4 days worth of inventory? If thats the case then it kinda throws your theory out the window.

Since Doom3Groupie is on a permanent Dell Jihad, I think we should let him write the press release

I have read nothing of the sort. I do know that they make long term deals with parts manufacturers that provide them with an extremely cheap price on
the proviso that they udertake to buy a minimum amount. It's the main reason why they are able to undercut the opposition.

I got my 9300 WUXGA yesterday, no sparkle at all. Huge difference from the crap screen 9200 I sent back. It is glossy, could be a bit brighter, but no grainy, sparkly stuff at all. Big improvement!

Yes, go over to the "tells us about your WUXGA" thread and post your specs, they can help you determine which one you have.
