No, its not that simple. I've returned both WUXGA and WXGA+ 9200's back to dell because their screens were completely abominable.
Now, since I've read new descriptions of the new 9300's LCD's, and I've seen that those descriptions match exactly my own experience with the horrendous 9200's LCD, I can make a reasonable conclusion that 9300's lcd's with TrueCrap® are pretty much the same as the 9200 horrendous lcd's. Yea, the 9300's lcd's might be glossy, but they still are crap.

I don't know about you, but Dell is a non-existent company for me from now on. And that's very unfortunate, but they did it themselves.

I am with bbstls here. I returned a 9200 because of its crappy screen and Dell made it a complete pain in the ass to do so. Now after dropping $600 MORE than what I paid for the 9200 for similar specs (granted it was from the refurb site) it is looking like it is a roll of the dice again? I am going to reserve my final judgement for when it arrives Thursday or Friday, but I will say I am not too thrilled about what I am hearing right now...

I'm having a little trouble weeding through actual comments from people who have the screens and people who are speculating on how mad they'll be if it's bad and people who are assuming the worst.

Have we now come to the conclusion based on evidence that the screens are bad? All of them (meaning the various actual models of the TrueBlight screens)?

Man, that's disappointing. I sort of expected the screen not to be as good as my Sony, but I had high hopes of it being acceptable considering some other qualities. I guess this Sony was a spoiler for me. Can't wait 'til Friday.

Well, sure. His screen is either Samsung, which is a bit better then LG, or he simply went into self denial and he's never seen a decent LCD screen in his life, so yea, MY SCREEN must be good!
* We all do this by the way, so I am not really criticizing him. The only way for someone who said that LG screen is good to really see that its crap is to have 2 laptops, one of them with a good screen and the other one with hmm, how do I say this - the LG with TrueCrap® next to each other.
Then you'll see that 9300's LG's are indeed - CRAP!
Sorry for being so angry, but I did return 2 9200s and it was painful, and for dell to do that to me again.... argh!!!!!

Well, if it's anything like the 9200 LG, then it's not just a problem with whites.

Try setting your background to solid light green. That's what I used to do to demonstrate the problem. Quite a sparkle show.

So, does a panel with no sparkle exist for the 9300?

Dellbert I appreciate your calmness in the face of what appears so far to be a Dell Sham. Hopefully we are all overreacting and the screens will be great. We can only hope for the best I guess...

What people who are talking about "sparkle" and have never seen the screen must understand is that "sparkle" is not the only problem. The WUXGA screen on 9200 was a complete abomination. It was a horrendous screen and yes, it did have sparkle, but if you were to remove that sparkle, the screen would've stayed the same abomination it always was.

Way too early to tell. But if these are in fact the same panels used on the 9200, the Samsung doesn't really sparkle. It has a light sheen, sort of like looking through sheer nylon (which I do quite often, BTW). Colors are a bit washed out, but that's fixable by dropping the gamma correction a bit. Perhaps a bit more prone to light leakage than the LG.

Something that may be a good sign though is the fac that anyone who ordered around 8/9 or later got a possible delay for the truecrap, I mean truelife screen for up to 3 days. Perhaps another manufacturer will be delivering a new model, we’ll have to see I guess!
Now the question is, will the XPS 2 have the same panel or something else? I'm hoping something higher quality since it costs more but I won't hold my breath.
Is there a chance XPS2 screens will differ from 9300 since both SKU numbers differ?

My 9300, supplied by Dell, Ireland, has a SEC5557 display, Samsung?

I am still getting used to the 1900*1200 display, but it seems ok. Mostly intended to run a simulator and play DVD's which the screen seems well suited to.
Dellbert. I changed the background to green. Bright green.. and it is an interesting sight for sure. It is not too bad. But I think that even a simple 'bad' is not gonna cut it for USD2600.

For those who havent found anyone willing to return a 9300 - well here is your first person. I am calling dell to return this laptop.

On a humorous side, the screen's sparke tends to match the silver finish of the notebook. Both have the same amount

(disappointed).

Anyone else has suggestions on mainstream notebooks (not Acer, Sager, AW) - I would appreciate your inputs
Edit:
The decision was prompted when I played LOTR. Seeing sparkles in Gandalf's hair and everyone else' hair too was what made me throw up

Edit2: did i mention that the DVD drive is flimsy?
By the way. I forgot to mention. The bottom two corners have an approximate 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall (approx) area that's darker than the rest of the screen.

I'm curious what Dell will say about the sparkle.
