9300 owners: tell us about your WUXGA - Page 2

Here is the info about my 9300 WUXGA display.

LG.Philips LCD Co Ltd (LPL)

My screen also has sparklies - I noticed that the minute I turned it on. I am wondering if Dell are using the original bad 9200 LG.Philips screens and just coating them with a special glossy finish....

I managed to find out some info from a Japanese site:

F7116 WUXGA 不明 (イギリスなどのヨーロッパを中心に流通)
W4554 WUXGA LG Philips LPL0000
W5409 WUXGA LG Philips LPL0000
W5412 WUXGA Samsung もしくはLG Philips
Y4014 WUXGA Samsung SEC5557
D8987 WUXGA Samsung

T4976 WXGA+ LG Philips
W5411 WXGA+ Samsung SEC5857
X4746 WXGA+ Samsung
X4766 WXGA+ Samsung

Hmm seems like they are using various manufacturer panels like before and as expected, the LG Philips ones are the sparkle ones. I'm gonna extremely pissed of my XPS 2 comes with the LG Philips panel. I'd hate to go through the return game with Dell just to get a good panel. BTW, does anyone know if its possible to swap panels between manufacturers? For example, would it be possible to couple a 17" sony x-brite lcd with a 9300? If it is then that might be a good alternative for a lot of us.

Well, this has me worried. I am thinking about calling and cancelling my XPS 2 until we find out more about the displays.

Well ... you might luck out and get a good monitor. And you can always send it right back.

Looks like you got lucky and got the Samsung screen

Y4014 WUXGA Samsung SEC5557

I have a next business day service w/ complete care on my laptop so I may call for it to be swapped out.

If I wanted it to be replaced, do they send out a replacement the next day - or do they come and collect it then send me another one? Also would the replacement be brand new or refurbished?

Shboyles,
What is the sparkle in your picture? Is it the vertical blue line next to the word "warp", or the bluish green mesh like haze (more pronounced at the bottom), or the 4 whiter lines to the top right corner?
Dont tell me it is the mesh like haze...

It is more the pixelation...grainy look...

I am going to post a side by side comparison soon of the 9860 screen and the WUXGA 9300 screen....
Yes - the pixelation is noticable - it is what appeared as the mesh. Come to think of it now I get what you mean by sparkly. (Nice photo - since you captured it). If this is what it looks like why would anyone keep such a notebook? Maybe it is better in reality than it looks on the screenshot. Mine is due to come sometime today - will know firsthand.

I don't see sparkles, but the mesh / grid stuff doesn't look good. Is the grid look that easy to see when you are using the screen from a normal distance.
OK, now THAT looks like crap. Is any of that supposed to be white? Or is that a new version of Windows that uses a default color of DirtyUnderWear. So does everybody who has a 9300 have a screen like that? Or is it just some models?

Well first of all, you must realize....when you use a digital camera to take a picture of an LCD...it sometimes creates that grid pattern...you have to kinda look past that...that is an effect from the camera....We need someone out there with a 9300 WUXGA screen, a REALLY GOOD CAMERA, and photography knowledge to take a good picture of it....
In the time, in a little while i will have a post up comparing the 9300 WUXGA screen side by side with the WSXGA Glossy screen that is on the 9860.

Dell (and most other PC giants) almost always use multiple manufacturers for the same part (as long as they are all within spec) and for the same notebook model. It's common practice, but as you can see - there are large differences between one company's part versus another (such as LCD panels).

That's why I never listen to a review when I hear the reviewer say 'the LCD on this machine model is great - you'll love it', or 'the hard drive is fast and quiet', because I know that the LCD and or HD that they the reviewer got may not be the one that the reader gets (same goes for the memory, keyboard, optical drive, battery and so on).

It's a gamble but we're lucky that Dell has a good return policy and if you say their is a defect with the machine, they'll pay for return shipping. For example:

On my 9200, when I was satisfied with the LCD on one of the notebooks I had delivered, I swapped the 'better' battery from another 9200 (holds a better charge - Sony), the better memory from another 9200 (Samsung), the better Optical Drive from another (Philips, quiet), and most importantly for me, the better keyboard from another (the one made in Thailand is the only good solid springy quiet one - the others suck).

I got that J9662 id number too (laptop not in my hands yet though).
