9300 owners: tell us about your WUXGA - Page 3

The white in my photos are white in real life, the camera just doesn't do a good job. Also you can't see that grid pattern either, the camera causes a moire kind of effect.

The colours are superb, it's just the sparklies that's the problem.

Do the Y4014 WUXGA Samsung SEC5557 and J9662 have sparkles?

Which screen should we look forward to getting?

Actual you lines and distortion is cause by zooming in on the LCD. To take a good picture of an LCD you need to be in a dark room (no lights), and be sure the whole lcd is in the picture (edge to edge). The Cam needs to be on a tripod straight in front of the LCD. Some digital cam may not take a good image in a pitch black room.

yea sorry guys i don't see a sparkle. so either we need a shot with a Real camera or your on crack. or you guys are just damn picky when it comes to lcd's, a little bit wrong with an lcd is to be expected, lcd's are very complitcated to make perfectaly.

personally, i don't mind the sparkles too much...i just remember reading that the samsung screen is much brighter.

IBM Screen Image

I took an photo of my IBM T41. The grids are visible on the photos even though in reality the screen looks just fine. So I guess I will ignore the grids in the above posts (yess )

Sorry cannot paste it here - will paste it if I can figure out how to..

Taking a picture of it is near impossible. I tried when I had my 9200 and could never capture it. However, it is very obvious when you look at the LCD. Nice QC Dell.

Yes it doesnt look too bad, and I wont fully judge until I get mine but Dell better be dang sure that I will GLADLY return my 1st notebook purchase ever if there screen blows. In reality, it is sorta sad that I can notice it when I've never owned a LCD before.

What is up with the vertical lines that run on the pics? Or is that just the camera as well?
I'll be taking a comparison shot of the 9300 screen and the sager 9860 screen...perhaps that will show something.....You really just need to see it in person...I Dont think i'm being that picky...although i don't think it is a bad screen either...I'm just simply stating that there is STILL SOME SPARKLE....and is not as good as the screens on the sony's, toshiba's, fujitsu's, sager's that have the glossy screens.....I think though, that there will be alot of returns because of WUXGA screen, however it won't be as bad as the 9200 massive returns...

This is an unverified rumor in the Sager thread, so take it for what it is worth:

Apparently Sager rejected the WUXGA screen that was sent to them for testing because of the sparkling pixels. It was also not a glossy screen. It has been rumored that other resellers would just slap on a shield to make it glossy and then sell it. There are other resellers who did not reject this screen.

If Dell did something like this, My XPS2 is going back fast. I am hopeful that Dell did the 9300 and XPS2 right and we will all be very happy with our new purchases.

First of all - no, it’s nearly impossible to see that infamous "sparkle" thing on a picture, so don't bother. The same pretty much goes for the overall quality of the screen – don’t bother taking pictures unless you are taking a picture of 2 screens for comparison purposes.
As for 9200 screen, yes, BOTH WUXGA and WXGA+ screen were CRAP, and it has nothing to do with “sparkle”, yes, WUXGA had a lot of sparkle, but its problem was that the screen was crap. WXGA+ was also crap btw. Its just because of the lower resolution it did not shock that bad right away.
As for Samsung/LG – yes, 9200’s LG screen were very bad, Samsungs were a bit better, but still not very good.
Once people start getting their 9300 en masse I suggest we make another thread for those who actually have their 9300, not just guesswork.
As for me – I did return my 9200 with WUXGA and 9200 with WXGA+, both screens were LG and both were just horrendous. I’ve personally observed the infamous Samsungs for the aforementioned models, yes, they were better, but I would’ve returned those as well.
My 9300 arrives tomorrow.

He he! That's the same approach I took. The only way to get a great lappy from Dell is to get several, and swap parts until you have the perfect machine!

where are the good screens?

Could anyone share a good 17" WUXGA screen to replace the Dell stock? Any tips on installation/replacement?
Does anyone know who makes the 17" WUXGA screens for Sony? At least for me, that is a beauty I witnessed.
Thank you.

I think what we need now is for the people who have theie i9300 in hand to check with power strip who manufactured their LCD and then also check what Dell part number they got.
Please post updated pictures in the dark of the LCDs. This is really starting to make me want to cancell and wait or order a Sager instead. My princeton LCD has what appears to be a sparkling effect and I'm not too fond of it.
Can anyone with a J9662 display out there please run PowerStrip and tell us who manufactured the display? Thanks!

now that we're all worried LCDs...

in case it's not what we expected - can't we just buy a wide screen LCD we like and simply replace it?
