9300 owners: tell us about your WUXGA - Page 34

Cool, mbman, it looks like the effect is much reduced on your panel. How would you describe it? From your pic, it looks like small dispersed areas of sparkle to me, but it's hard to tell. Afterall, it's an LCD image rendered on the LCD of a camera, and then rendered again on my LCD

those people in that other thread saying we are all being picky are getting on my nerves. they might have a less extreme case than others and they are critisizing like we are being anal about it. i'm sure they would be singing a different tune if they saw it in person. i tried really hard to like the screen and deal with it, but it causes too much eye fatigue doing every day work. if i just bought the laptop for games and movies, i could careless because it looks awesome in those situations.

Mine is the LG philips LCD. And no its pretty constant over the whole LCD. Certain areas just arn't always visible, because like its been described, it's satiny so only really noticable at certain angles/light refractionos.

Oh, yeah. Right now, I'm viewing your pic on a 1024x768 37" monitor, and viewed at actual size, the effect is easy to see. Your whites are pretty dirty. I'm not sure I could tolerate that.

yah i looked at it on another screen, CRT, and its not nrearly as bad as that pic makes it looks.

I have seen the HP ZD7000, the Sager 8790 and the Sony A170, the Toshiba Quosimo. None of these have any sparkle effect at all.
I have seen the HP, 2 Sony's and an Toshiba and I'm waiting on a Fujitsu at the moment. I don't have the model numbers with me, I would have to go to my test logs and confirm which models they were but they all had at least some kind of sparkle effect, they were more visible when viewing a "light green" colored background.

My mother in-law has an HP 15.4" widescreen WSXGA (dont know the model number but it has an AMD processor) and it is more visible than the Samsung I compared side by side on an I9200.

I just came back from a CompUSA to see how many other laptop lcd screens have this sparkle effect. I went to each one and opened up notepad fullscreen. Not one of them had any noticeable sparkle. I must of tried 10 or more laptops of different brands and sizes.

That's probably because the 9200 Samsung doesn't exhibit the effect. Compare it to a 9200 LG, and then stand back!

Have you ever seen the 9200 or 9300 LG screen? I don't think what you are calling sparkle and what we are referring to is the same thing. I've been using the Sony A170 everyday for 9 months now, and if it has any kind of a sparkle effect it is a good thing. What we're talking about is a bad thing.

Of course I have. I have a replacement panel shipping to me as we speak to replace this POS LG on my 9300. I'm on your side.

Yes, I have an I9200 LG and I'm waiting on an I9300 LG as we speak. I am very confident I know what the sparkle is. I have been working with LCD panels for quite some time including assembly and disassembly in clean rooms and there are two things that can cause the sparkle:1. the density of pixels and 2. using an Anti-glare difuser.

I think the problem on the I9200 was exagerated by the fact that it used an Anti-glare difuser. The I9300 does not use an Anti-glare difuser which is why I believe less people are complaining on the I9300. I personaly think this issue has been exagerated here on the forum but I also believe each person has a right to be satisified with there purchase. I am in no way going to tell someone they "can't" or "don't" see this anomoly or that they "should" be happy about it, its just my opinion that this has been slightly overstated here on these forums.

there are people that are supposed to get their screens replaced today right? i know people said they were, but some people also said it has been delayed. i lost track of who said what and when now.

I don't believe this is true. It sure looks like there is an anti-glare layer to me. It has just been glossed over.
I've compared mine to a toshiba and the toshiba looks a ton better. I didn't notice any sparkle like the 9300 has.

So, you only have the 9300 Samsung now? How does it compare to the 9200 Samsung? In your opinion, did they put a glossy coating on top of the old anti-glare coating, or are these brand new panels? And do you have a Samsung part number for the new panel?

I'm definitely one of the people who said what and when. So put me down for that.

Powerstrip says its an Samsung, I have not disassembled it yet so I'm not sure what the part number on the actual panel is. I like the Samsung on both the I9200 and I9300 and I would say they are comparible, I'm just not a fan of the "glare/shiny" panels, too much reflection for me.

As for putting an glossy surface "over" an anti-glare surface that could be done but would have to be something out of the process and very different from the way panels are typically manufactured, not likely gonna happen. This is not a coating "over" a coating, the gloss is part of the difuser and the difference between the I9300 and I9200 is likely nothing more than the difuser.

Maybe that's the reason this panel sucks while most others are fine. I don't know much about lcd manufacturing, but from the looks of it, that would be my best guess. Since I've seen lots of lcds before, but none like this.

That's off the packing slip. No replacements etc. - the one that came with the system. I don't really have time/inclination to wait around/have LCD replaced: if Dell wants to game people by seeding the system with some crappy and some not-so-crappy LCDs, then oh well: I'll go elsewhere.

That said, I work with a number of people with WUXGA/WSXGA+ 15.4" Latitudes, and those LCDs (while not shiny) are all far superior to the one I saw on the 9300. Much crisper, more even, no sparkle, better viewing angles.

Anyway, got a human on the phone at Dell right away. They were extremely polite, no issues whatsoever: within ten minutes of dialing the whole return was done and I was re-taping the box for shipment back to Dell. Who knows, maybe I need to look at the D810 again... So no worries: if you don't like it, you are not stuck with it.

Good luck! Hope yours makes you happy!

Just trying to clarify so I know whether to worry a lot or just a normal amount until tomorrow. Until I see your response I'll worry a lot just to cover all the bases.
