Just found out I also have this screen. If i'm not 100% happy with it, it's going back for sure. The screen is the most important part of the notebook to me, so it better be good.

I have J9662. I'm going to compare it to the M70 before I send it back so I can see the differences.

Same for me. If I'm buying high end I want all high end parts, not corner cutting on the LCD. I'll go buy a Sager or something else instead.

Hmm, it seems most people are reporting J9662. Only one K9975, and that was sent to a reviewer.

Conspiracy theory time: maybe XPS2 owners and reviewers get a good panel, and 9300 owners get leftovers

I have the J9662. I'm not excited about it, but then, the truth is I haven't really heard any hard complaints about it, just speculative pessimism. I'm going to take a look at mine and if it's "iffy", (as opposed to obviously crappy), I'll use it a bit and make sure I really don't like it. Until Friday for me. Mine's delivered, but I'm in a different town at the moment. I have to admit, my standards are high, I've been using the Sony 17" for the last 9 months now and love it.

Guys....its all speculations at this point! I wouldn't go as far as saying that I am definitely sending it back without truely testing the display out for a few days. This testing also has to be done with an unbiased opinion, so what if it turns out to be made by LG....it might be a newer revised version without any of the previous problems. I understand that some of you have had problems with the displays in the i9200, but as of now, no one has proven that the J9662 is indeed made by LG. Come on guys...its the 21st century, show some flexibility!

let me know how you like it sonicwind, i'm real curious as i have the same one headed my way.

I will have my computer with the J9662 to display tomorrow....will let everyone know who makes that screen!

J9662 is my part numer. I am typing from the new system. My comments to the topics I see as most relevant:
1. LCD sparkle: Now I know what everyone means. The sparke is like a slightly shiny very fine sand that throws off colors when you have a white page open. I have my IBM and 9300 side by side. 9300 screen is sad
2. LCD Settings: Dellbert - I cannot see your graphic clearly. Its like a white blotch with some lines (except the head). On the IBM I can see it properly
3. Light leakage: None whatsoever
4. Screen sharpness: I think that there is a setting that is causing the words displayed to show up yucky. I mean YUCKY/CRAP/HORRIBLE. This is aweful. EVERY graphic shows up with jagged edges as if someone was trying to adjust it but failed.
5. System is quiet
6. Its light. LCD did make some creaking noise when I tried to adjust it using one hand on the corner. But it is fine if done properly (Middle). I think I have to realize this is not my IBM
7. Keyboard is puurrrrfect.
8. sound is awesome
9. It is slightly warm. I am worried about my to-be children - I dont think I can keep it on my lap for long. To be more accurate, the top right corner of the system is warmer.

Folks - any ideas how to remove dell factory settings for fonts and graphics will be Highly appreciated

Oh - let me give something very positive - the colors on this website (except white) are eye popping. Really.

Hehe, that would be nice to know, who made it!
Better yet - tell us how good it is, I care less who made it as long as the quality is good.
But I doubt that the quality of 9300's LGs will be anywhere near being acceptable, yet sure when we get ours we will try to say to ourselves - Oh, its not THAT bad, I can probably tolerate it, but of course we all know that the screen we have is CRAP!
Thank you.
how is the brightness of the screen? i remember that the i9200 lg displays were not to bright - even the max setting left something to be desired.
Screen brightness is ok but not too great. Max setting is like 70% of Sony/Toshibas on the market

Edit: I figured out how to change font size.

Ankurg, do you mind installing PowerStrip on your i9300 and telling us who makes the J9662 display. You can download it here:

could you hit "print screen" and post it here?

Once you have PowerStrip, it's under "Options" and "Monitor Information." Thanks a bunch....that would help alot of bothered souls on this forum right now!
yeah that was stupid, ignore that. took me a few seconds.
The monitor is LPL0000 (ID)
Manufacturer shows LPL
On Dell website it shows as Sullivan/Gillbert

I dont know how to paste a screenshot on the forum. When I do Ctrl-V nothing happens.
OK....so it is an LG...now we gotta see if its any good.
That's strange that you can't display dellburt's graphic clearly. Anyone have any idea why ankurg is seeing jagged edges? Driver issue possibly?
