Inspiron 8600, Precision M60 RAM confusion

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer...

Do the Inspiron 8600 and precision M60 use the same RAM? According to the ordering pages on the Dell website they both use 333 mhz DDR RAM. But, in the user manuals, the 8600 is listed as having PC2700 (333 mhz) RAM and the M60 266 mhz. Which info is right?

I know fo ra fact the M60 uses 266mhz ram but recently dell started shipping the units with 333mhz ram i guess it couldnt hurt using faster ram... oh wait except your wallet! my advice is pick up an dM60 and get ram elsewhere.

The i8600, D800, and M60 can use DDR333 and the bios adjusts the memory bus to a 3:5 ratio. Your FSB stays @ 100MHz and the memory runs @ 166Mhz.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll check the M60 when it arrives at work, hopefully next week, to see what RAM it came with. Hopefully it will be the 333 mhz. I maxed the RAM anyways because the Boss paid for it.

Any advantage to running faster ram in the m60 other than the wallet drain?

Yes, your memory bus will run at a faster rate and support up to PC2700 as I stated above. Faster memory, however, not only would better your system's bandwidth, but would also increase the system overall performance.

I just received the M60 at work. Dell did ship it with the PC2700 RAM. Pretty cool to see the two sticks of 1 gig RAMS.
