Asus M6BNe Optical drive

i hate this god damn toshiba drive, it was the only one the local store where i bought my laptop from had at the time. i currently am using the Toshiba sd-r2512 and it is the worst peice of garbage i have ever used (optical drive wise) it cant read DVD's at 8x (it never passes 6x even with a full DL DVD) it cant read burned DVD-R's on high quality media (Benq/Sony DVD-R 8x, can burn at 16x) when even i throw in a regular CD it will make stupid noises, sounds like it keeps trying to read 2 things at the same time and i haven't even told it to do anything yet. its access time is just utter crap. i can only copy CD-r's at less than 4x which is totally unacceptable since cheap garbage samsung 8x dvds can copy faster. its not my HDD since i can copy off it at over 32MB/s and write to it faster than 25MB/s.

with the sd-r2512
time to copy a pressed DVD = 24mins
time to copy a Burned DVD-r = 33mins (WTF is this?)

with this cheap garbage samsung 8x dvd drive (its old and i dont even know what the hell model number it is) its mated to some old desktop and im copying to a USB HARD DRIVE!!!!!

Time to copy a pressed DVD = 18mins
time to copy a Burned DVD-r = 22mins

since this drive is just a POS plain and simple i might as well just upgrade to a DVDRW. is there a DVDRW drive OTHER than toshitba that i can get for the M6BNe? i am never buying a toshitba product again even if i have to import something respectable from japan for 300 dollars.

on a side note, things ive had that are toshiba and that have broken down, toshiba satelite pro (went thru 8 HDDs, 1 LCD, 1 LCD hinge, 1DVDROM, 1 MOBO), toshiba standalone DVD player (completly died for no reason 2 months after i bought it, kept blowing fuses), Toshiba DVDRW drive (on dads laptop, can't burn half the dvd media i have where my pioneer has burnt them all flawlessly), Toshiba HDD's (worst garbage possible, slow, expensive, dies quickly, LOUD)

i hate toshiba once again

i just got a m6ne from istnc.com and it came with a matsushita(panasonic) dual layer dvd-rw. no problems whatsoever. they sell them in their notebook accessories section. you could by the matsushita and sell your toshiba on ebay talk to rick or gwen at istnc.com, just use the live chat deal. they will answer any questions. you can't go wrong with a dvd-rw dual made by matsushita. it burns at 4x dvd dual and reg.. hope this helps........

I believe the new optical drives for the Asus M6BNe are made by Panasonic. At least the one I got from ncix.com. If I have some time later today I'll try timing its performance in comparison with your Toshiba. The model on my optical drive is UJDA760 if you're interested in looking it up. I think asus changed to panasonic drives sometime around october or november of last year.

damn i shoulda waited i got the laptop in march or april last year i think... im going to try and order that drive from my local computer store where i got the laptop from, they are usually good about ordering anything in.

i would love to have a panasonic drive, everything i have that is panasonic in my house has worked flawlessly, NONE of the electronics has had any problems including microwaves (one panasonic microwave is older than me and it still works good), home theatre, discmans, dvd drives, TVs, vcrs, dvd players. all perfect!

I have the same dvd recorder, bought 4 days ago( asus M6N). Included with package nero said it is only 1x 2x ? is this true?
I also have those problems:
1) Right front speaker is much louder than the front left. is this normal? i checked everything from software point of view.
2) What are the nominal writing speed of MATSHITA UJ-831D?
3) My shop where i bought the machine (M6762NELP) said 3 years warranty. How can i find out?
4) I don't speak German language and all the package i got was in German. With it was (among others) a A4 paper writing ''RMA Nummer Anforderung and a ''Notebook warranty card'' all in German. Should i do anything to activate to warranty?
