Dangerous to leave screen closed???

I have a 700m using with a 2405fpw monitor. Is it ok to leave the screen of the 700m closed while I am using the external monitor for long periods of time, or should I leave it open? I guess the only concern would be heat, although it doesn't get too warm. any thoughts???

under DELL QUICKSET, just make sure it's set to not turn off when u close the lid... the LCD LID will automatically shut off, but your system will stay on.

there's no harm in closing the lid while using the lappy with another monitor or LCD panel. i do it all the time.

well your dell should have cooling for the cpu and it draws air some somewhere other than your keyboard so its okay, its actually better to leave it closed since dust and whatnot will accumulate inside your keys if left open for long periods. (unless you have some crazy air purifier)

yes that was my exact concern about the dust and everything, plus it just takes up more space with it open. My only concern was the screen getting warm from the palmrest area. I've never used an external monitor until now, so never had to think about this before. Just wanted to make sure others do this as well and it is ok.

just make sure that when you close the lid that you haven't closed any air intake vents. On my 8100, I think the air intake is above the keyboard so when I close it, it doesn't get enough ventilation

what resolution are you able to run on that 2405 using the 700m?

I am using the 2405 fpw as my primary monitor when hooked up to the 700m, and it puts out the full 1920X1200. It looks AMAZING!

Yes it is on both ends of the extreme, but then again I get the best of both worlds, a monster display for at home, and a ultraportable while out and about.

What about for those people with models having a heat issue on the left palmrest coming from the hard drive?

I'm not worrying so much about the hard drive getting too hot as the lcd. Can the heat that comes in contact with the lcd make damage do it?
i would say to keep it open since heat will build up since heat rises and since heat is dissipated through the keyboard on the 700m. i don't think the heat will damage the lcd, but the cover will definitely trap the heat. don't know why people are concerned about dust on the keyboard...just get a can of air to blow it off periodically

the only bad thing about the amazing resolution is that the 700m doesn't have digital out

Mine gets warm when it's closed and on, but I don't think it's really bad for it. If you elevate it so that that air can flow accross the bottom, it would be even better, and probably not get even warm.

yeah that would be a great bonus to have the digi. out. Maybe on the future 700m replacement.
