After today I love Dell.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I just want to let everyone know that after today Dell will probably be my sole supplier for PC's in the future. I had ordered an Inspiron 9300 the first day they announced it and, like everybody else who ordered here, impatiently checked my order status every day until I got a tracking number, and then imaptiently checked UPS every day until the machine was supposed to arrive. The problem is UPS said it was delivered yesterday but I didn't have a box in my hands. After much talking to UPS it looks like the box was signed for (BS!), so according to UPS it was in my possession. Yet I had nothing, so I call Dell and ask them what to do (UPS stated only Dell could report the package as stolen) and they took care of it. I have a new 9300 with the specs I want on the way at no cost to me. No fuss, they took care of me right away. I have to wait 7-10 business days for my new laptop, but I guess if I waited this long I can wait even longer. Anywho, my point was to put some good vibes out there for Dell, most people have no problem b*tching when something goes wrong but has a hard time remembering to say thanks when things go right. So for those that read this in the future, Dell isn't as bad as you read in other places and you might be pleasantly surprised.

I can picture a particular UPS truck becoming a favorite among UPS delivery folks, with a sound system and a fast lappy inside drawing a lot of otherwise bored people to play games

(My above stmt is a joke - no need for others to take offense - the laptop is probably in a warehouse somewhere sitting idle due to some system error.. what a waste)

Hi,
I had the same problem. UPS lost my DELL too and reported it delivered and I got a new laptop from Dell. It seems Dell charges UPS for the lost laptop whose insurance covers these things.

The UPS will sign for these things themselves in case there is a screwup so they can get on with their day.

I have also witnessed situations where the UPS and fedex drivers sign it to make it look like it was delivered on time, and they end up delivering it the next day. But it would be so easy for the driver to be stealing these shipments. I would hope that UPS keeps track of how many "lost" shipments each driver has to weed out the theives.

As for a positive dell experience, they shipped me the wrong external keyboard that I ordered with my laptop, and let me keep it free. Not as big as a laptop, but it was a nice gesture.

I knew that one truck looked like it had way to many drivers hanging around.

I would think they would have the signature of the person who signed for it. Verification would be easy to see that it wasn't yours.

I had the same issue with some speakers through FedEx except they delivered them to my neighbor instead. I could have screwed them out of the money but I didn't want the hassle.

Dell has the reputation of taking good of their customers. I've ordered a speaker system with them a long time ago. At that time, they have the lowest price with free shipping and that's why I ordered from them. The speakers were shipped using Airborne Express (now DHL) and got lost or stolen in their warehouse. Dell took care of it ASAP and shipped me a new one on their expense.
