Kind of a bummer its not till the end of July!

Avesome! 715-730 are now free! YEY!

Intel is waiting until the Turion systems actually come out to discount. It's a good business decision for them, but kinda stinks for those of us who bought or will buy a system before July. *sigh* oh well. c'est la vie.

Thanks SmilePak, I will definately wait it out then, since I don't really need to buy a new lappy soon.
I kinda wanted a turion based lappy but we'll have to see which one will offer best Performance / Price ratio.

According to AMD, (which is admittedly a little bit biased) the Turion processor is about even or just a little better in business application, and better at games.

I'll wait til July for my next upgrade path.
I get to wait until college time, so I'm going to wait to order until my 18th B-day (end of June) so I can get free moneys and a better lappy.

:If you would like to donate me a Birthday present I wouldn't mind :

lol I think everyone will say: "Yea, I'll do it."
and think: "What a loser and a sucker, I'll never pay a moronic stranger."

Intel isnt waiting for the Turion to come out to release price cuts guys... Its there quarterly price cuts they do every single year. Dont just read the headline on the news story and believe it eheheh. The price cuts have nothing to do with Turion. Go do a search on google. You will find that intel cuts prices every year at the same time.

January
April
July
October

This isn't a price cut. Companies introduce new high-end products and shift their entire product line down to keep the high-end stuff at the same price.

I read that article to, but you have to keep in mind that the PM benchmarks are actually very integer dependent, it does not fare well against the floats, since much of its core architecture is inherited from the P-III. So, on float benches, it's not too surprising that Turion would come out ahead, 25 or 35 W.

And that 32 MB discrete V-RAM is hardly an improvement over integrated video chipset, since the X200 system chipset does not really have a mature integrated video ready for prime time yet at this time.

Also keep in mind who Ashley Vance is, who is a notoriously pro-Intel writer, who could have been on their payroll by the why she writes. Just to give you an example about what people in the know say about her:

Remarkable how units sales can go down in a quarter when revenue
was over half of total IPF server revenue in *all* of 2003.

Also curious how:
1) HP can have 70% of IPF sales by units (4425/6281) in 1Q04
according to Gartner.
2) HP can report IPF sales "nearly doubled" and revenue up 58%
in its fiscal quarter ending April 30 sequentially QoQ.
3) Gartner claims IPF servers shipments were only 6281 units in
1Q04 and ostensibly a similar amount in 4Q03 when IDC claims 8830
units in 4Q03.

The Gartner revenue data for 1Q04 seems to be in good general
agreement with HP and IDC claims but its units sales numbers are
very suspect. This isn't unprecedented. In 1Q03 IDC's IPF server
sales by unit numbers were about 56% higher than Gartner's. It
is too bad we don't have IDC's numbers for 1Q04.

It is quite conceivable that there are many PA-8700+ sites out there that will go PA-8900 and then straight to Itanium 3 (Tukwila). What enterprise customers want to see is a Looooong Roadmap with plenty of support so they can choose when to upgrade
I don't think she could be though of, in any way as a neutral observer, the way she slams AMD certainly needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

In fact, it's likely that Ashley Vance's Article was part of the intel strategy to counter the Turion debut and testings, don't believe a word of it without independent verification.
