I have no idea if this will work or not, but if we find out there is one screen that is better and "mostly OK", then I would probably just call them up and give them the real deal. Something like:

I have screen model X, I know that there are are multiple screens used for the same configuration that I bought "17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife WUXGA". I also know from other purchasers that screen Y is better. I paid the same price and for the same label for screen X as others did for screen Y. Replace my screen X with screen model Y or I'll return it.

If they argue with me, I might just reiterate that they are selling 2 different qualities for the same advertisement and threaten to complain to the BBB or anybody else. But I like to stay away from that kind of thing as much as possible, though I will use it, and in fact will do it in some circumstances.

If they say they just can't do it, I'll ask them if they'd like to have me talk to their supervisor. Not as a threat, but as an opportunity to talk to someone who might actually be able to help me out.

They may just say they can't do it and accep the return.

If we find out that one screen is "primo" though, I will try this and every other trick I can to get them to replace it with the good one, progressively until I run out of options, because there literally is no other option for a notebook for me at the moment, and I need an upgrade. OK, well I want an upgrade, anyway. I actually don't need one.
