Might have to sell my 7700m *bawl* Life sucks *sniff*

God, my life totally sucks right now. My company had major lay-offs last week. I was one of them. If I can't find a good-paying job within the next couple weeks or so, then I'm gonna have to part with my beloved AW 7700m. I'm gonna be hard-up for cash if I don't find a new job soon, and paying rent, buying food, and paying bills has to come before my computer. I've had the computer since late January. It's worked fine for me. The only glitch was them writing on my invoice the wrong amount of RAM, but they had installed the correct amount...just a dumb typo on their part *shrug*

Anywho, I payed over $4000 for this system. The system was paid for out-right so I don't owe anything on it. With the specs listed below, how much do you think I could sell my lappy for?

And let's just pray that I can find a damn job soon. 'Cause I love my lappy and don't want to let it go

Sorry to hear this, what line of work were in that there are no decent paying jobs around?

I'm a chemist. The problem isn't that there aren't decent paying jobs. They do pay well. The problem is that at the moment, with the lay-offs in our company there are lots of chemists needing jobs but not really many jobs available. I do have an interview tomorrow, but I also know that, at least, a couple people I worked with are interviewing for the same job(and they have more experience then I do). I'm also looking at some jobs in other cities even though I might have to commute over an hour each way *shrug*

I might end up just getting two full-time jobs for the time-being until I can find a job in my area of expertise. I figure two full-time jobs will be able to cover all my bills with some left over. But working 80 hours a week would kinda suck

sorry about your current situation.
that is my only fear, considering our current economy...finishing college. ....but no jobs available

Bummer.

I'm an engineer, and I got laid off right after buying my first expensive car... Had to sell the car.

I had a similar experience years ago too. I'm self employed, but I had a problem property that required litigation... expensive litigation. And I'm a home builder, so having to pay for property I couldn't use made matters worse.

What I did was cut all my expenses. We now live pretty inexpensively (doesn't have to be a bad thing) and since our income has returned, we have invested and continued to live modestly, so this won't happen again. Now it looks like we may be able to retire early.

Good luck, hopefully you won't have to sell your laptop.

No unemployment?

Ever consider using the opportunity to go back to grad school? That's where many of the non-PhD's who recently got laid off at my lab went (I know because I wrote a ton of recs).

I'd say, only sell the 7700 if you're desperate. You're going to take an awful hit on it. Computers are second only to Jaguars in losing value after purchase.

Sorry to hear you have to sell your baby. A few months ago I had to sell my laptop and didn't have a good experiance on Ebay so hopefully you have better luck selling yours

Yeah, I can get unemployment, but you don't get anywhere what you earned on the job. Let's just hope I wow them tomorrow at my interview. And the there is the health insurance, etc to consider.

And yes, I have thought about going back to grad school, but I'm still paying off crap-loads of school loans as it is. I had zilch help from my parents when I went to college. I'll be paying school loans 'til I die, I swear. And to tell you the truth, alot of companies look more at your experience than whether you have a master's degree. It does help but not as much as some people think it does.

Yeah, I was figuring that I should be able to get, at least, $3000. And that's not much less than I would have gotten back from AW if I had known this was going to happen and sent the system bac before the 30 day deadline. They'd take off about a whooping $600 for restocking fees...that's just insane!

It's been explained before why they have that fee.

I guess I'm lucky. I got back over 8k in taxes this year. Paid for my new system no problems

Sorry to hear that you lost your job. Best of luck to you tomorrow. Hope you kick ass and get the job. I just left my current job as well, so I'll be looking for work soon too. hehe. It's a shitty process, I wish all of you who are looking the best of luck.

And hopefully some of you will get good tax money too so you can keep ur laptops

Best of luck on your interview. Be confident, I went through the same about a year and a half ago and am doing a lot better now. It can be hard but it will make you stronger.

Hey man I have a idea on your behalf, shame your not in the UK like, how about renting it someone, make up a short contract and lend it someone for about 150quid or so per month, and make sure they are within distance to view the machine.

Worked for a few people I know who was in dire straites, also they made sure the pc/laptop/car etc who ever had it on rent understood and had signed for any damage, and that you have the right to ask for it back at anytime.

Sorry to hear about your situation but if it comes down to it and you must sell then I would be interested. I was getting ready to place an order on the AW website in a few days so I sent you a PM.

I'm preparing for my interview right now so I haven't had time to look at my private messages. I look when I get back home. Wish me luck!
Couldn't you sell "something else" instead? hehe.
